The Canadian pop/rock music group, Barenaked Ladies have canceled their "Disney" gig next month because of lead singer Steven Page's arrest in New York State last week. Mr Page was charged with possessing cocaine. He's pleaded not guilty, the band said. Best known for hits such as One Week and Pinch Me, the BNL was due to play the Disney Music Block Party on Long Island, NY USA in late August.
On the group's website their manager Terry McBride said they did not want to put the Disney company in an "awkward position". He said: "Members of the band completely support Steven Page. "But we don't want to put Disney in an awkward position before issues involving Steven's arrest are resolved." An earlier statement posted on their site said: "Steven has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and the validity of the charges against Steven will be strongly contested." The band says they plan to continue performing elsewhere and would begin to work on a new album later this year. Previously known for its clean image and cross-generational appeal, the group recently released a new album for children !! Called Snacktime, it's a collection of original children's songs. You can buy a copy of the cd from MNN, HERE.
The band was formed nearly 20 years ago in Toronto, CN. It has released 12 albums, producing such hits as "If I Had $1,000,000," "Brian Wilson" and "Too Little, Too Late." The group is known for its whimsical lyrics and comedic banter on stage. In 2002, the group performed an impromptu concert at Syracuse University for VH1.
MNN wishes Mr Page and the band the best !
