Come Dancing, by Ray Davies of the KINKS, to London Stage !
COME DANCING, the musical written by Ray Davies, leader of the classic British rock band THE KINKS will be produced at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in east London, UK. The show is named after a Mr Davies' song which was a hit for the band 25 years ago. The show will open on September 13, 2008 and is scheduled to run for six weeks, a spokesperson for the theatre confirmed. However, it has not yet been decided whether Davies will appear in the show. The musical, set in the 1950s around the Ilford Palais Ballroom, will include over 20 songs by Davies and the band, many are new compositions. According to the theatre’s website, Come Dancing, “takes us back to a time when Saturday night dancing at the local palais was the magical, not-to-be-missed highlight of every young person’s week”.
