MUSIC NEWS- Now that the music-laden Democratic National Convention is finished rocking Denver, CO in
support of Barack Obama with stars such as Kanye West, Sheryl Crow, Michael McDonald (Doobie Bros), Death Cab for Cutie, Fall Out Boy and Stevie Wonder, it's time to see what the Republicans have lined up for their Twin Cities event. Seems though that you need to be invited to a number of the RNC shows, with private GOP-friendly appearance that include Gretchen Wilson, LeAnn Rimes, Charlie Daniels and Sammy Hagar.
But, many other musicians will be in the Twin Cities to protest, Rage Against the Machine, which threw a huge anti-war rally in Denver, will bring their message to Minneapolis' Target Center on Wednesday. "While there's a lot of clinking of champagne glasses and toasting one another and passing big checks back and forth inside the convention, there's a reality on the streets outside that will be represented by the Nightwatchman and Rage Against the Machine and Anti-Flag and all the other bands playing in protests in Minneapolis-St. Paul" says Rage guitarist Tom Morello told the Star Tribune. Other big protest concerts include Monday's "Take Back Labor Day" rally that will feature, Steve Earle, Mos Def, Morello performing as The Nightwatchman and others, and Tuesday's "Ripple Effect" festival headlined by Michael Franti and Spearhead, according to the Minn-St Paul Star Tribune newspaper.
