MUSIC NEWS- Sure he is, and to prove it the singer, songwriter Ben Folds will be performing live to support his much anticipated new solo release, Way to Normal. He recently described the new album as a commentary on his new freedom, immediately following his recent divorce. Ben Folds' terrific melodic gifts, irony-filled lyrics and punk-rock leanings for piano-pounding songs have gotten this North Carolina native a legion of devoted fans. Way to Normal, Folds' newest release,
is a raucous and sometimes profane mix of sure-fire crowd-pleasers and thoughtful, moving ballads. The album hints to its predominant inspirations - Marvin Gaye and Bob Dylan and has the cheerful sound of Folds' previous band Ben Folds Five. Folds kicks off his tour on September 24 at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. and will have stops at theatres, clubs and a few "sheds" through mid-November. Included are Terminal 5 in New York City (September 30-October 1), The Fillmore Detroit (October 9), The Pageant in St. Louis (October 16), Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Mo. (October 22), Stubb's Bar-B-Q / Waller Creek Amphitheatre in Austin (October 25) and The Wiltern in Los Angeles (November 14).
