Ecco, an imprint of HarperCollins, recently won the rights to publish the autobiography of rock singer Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), according to publishing biz sources. Ecco reportedly paid more than $2 million at an auction. Hot off the Guitar Hero - Aerosmith video hit, Aerosmith’s lead singer is the latest rock ‘n’ roll stars to agree to tell his story. Last summer, the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards signed a $7 million deal with Little, Brown to write an autobiography—a deal that was finished right before Eric Clapton’s autobiography came out. The Clapton book went on to become one of the Doubleday Publishing Group’s bestselling titles of 2007. Mr.Tyler is valuable for the publisher. In addition to being a force behind one of the music industry’s top bands (along with guitarist Joe Perry) for nearly 40 years, the singer and songwriter has personal struggles to tell, having battled a heroin addiction. The Steven Tyler memoirs should be AWESOME!!! Woot for Ecco and HarperCollins.
