The long bootlegged and much sought after by music collectors Clash "Live at Shea Stadium" cd (final title tbd) will get an authorized release on October 7 from Legacy. This October 13, 1982 performance at New York's Shea Stadium is from the Clash opening set for the Who on the The Who's "farewell" tour (was that their 1st or 3rd "farewell"?). Recorded by Glyn Johns, the album features the second night’s performance in its entirety and shows the group at a fascinating and pivotal point in their career. They had risen from punk heroes to arena superstars and would break up less than a year later. It features a trove of Clash favorites; "London Calling", "Police on My Back", "The Magnificent Seven" and "Clampdown" for example. The group, at the time was on the road in support of its then-current album "Combat Rock". The new cd will also include the singles from that album, "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and "Rock the Casbah."
Representatives at Legacy Records said that lthe ate Clash guitarist Joe Strummer found the Shea shoe tapes while preparing to move into a new home. This is a legendary Clash concert; released in a historic year for Shea Stadium.
