MUSIC NEWS - In only three-days, Metallica with their "Death Magnetic" (Warner Bros) have made chart history in America by becoming the first group to debut five albums at number one. Their first studio album since 2003, Death Magnetic is the heavy rockers’ latest studio release and their first since 2003’s St. Anger, has sold close to 500,000 copies. Before this latest chart addition, Metallica were tied with the Beatles, U2 and the Dave Matthews Band, who each debuted four albums at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
In related METALLICA news, many fans are complaining that the sound on the new cd is just too darn loud! And it's the 'Guitar Hero' version of the album that makes fans realize the poor sound quality of the CD version.
METALLICA released the new album, 'Death Magnetic', on the "hot" Guitar Hero video game on the same day as the cd/vinyl release. And now fans are saying that the 'Guitar Hero' version sounds much better. CMU.com reports that a fan even wrote and complained to Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound, who mastered the album. Jensen was kind enough to reply, and wrote back: "I'm certainly sympathetic to your reaction, I get to slam my head against that brick wall every day. In this case the mixes were already brick walled before they arrived at my place. Suffice it to say I would never be pushed to overdrive things as far as they are here. Believe me I'm not proud to be associated with this one, and we can only hope that some good will come from this in some form of backlash against volume above all else". Have you listened to both the cd and video game version? What do you think?
UPDATE- 9/25/08 - Metallica co-manager Cliff Burnstein now says claims that the sound quality of the band's new album 'Death Magnetic' is pretty mediocre are just not true. He told the Wall Street Journal this week that the fans' complaints have been "exaggerated" and that response to the CD version of the album had been "overwhelmingly positive". He added: "There's something exciting about the sound of this record that people are responding to." Fans?, your reply to Mr Burnstein? Comment below...
