MUSIC NEWS- The nominations for the 2008 American Music Awards (AMAs) were announced today in LA and Alicia Keys led the nominees with five. She picked up noms for artist of the year, favorite female artist- pop or rock music, favorite female artist- soul/rhythm & blues music and favorite album in pop or rock music and soul/R&B music for "As I Am". The Eagles and Coldplay both earned four nominations. Coldplay was nominated for artist of the year, favorite band, duo or group-
pop or rock music, favorite artist- alternative rock music (Foo Fighters and Linkin Park were the other noms in alt rock) and favorite album- pop or rock music for "Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends." The Eagles secured nominations for artist of the year, favorite band, duo or group- pop or rock music, favorite artist- adult contemporary music, and favorite album pop or rock music for "Long Road Out of Eden." Other performers nominated for artist of the year are Lil Wayne, who also received a nomination for favorite male artist- rap/hip-hop music and favorite album rap/hip-hop music for "Tha Carter III" and Chris Brown, who also received nominations for favorite male artist- pop or rock music and favorite male artist- soul/rhythm & blues music.
Other artists receiving multiple nominations are Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Daughtry, Flo Rida, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Usher and Kanye West. For the second year, winners will be determined by you thru online voting at amavote.com (votes will be collected starting today, October 14, thru November 7). Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift, the Pussycat Dolls and New Kids on The Block were announced as performers for the show, the 36th annual AMAs, joining previously named performers the Jonas Brothers and P!nk. Additional acts and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks. The AMAs will be held November 23 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, CA and will be broadcast live on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel as host.
