MUSIC NEWS- It's been thirty five years since former Velvet Underground leader, Lou Reed's dark masterpiece Berlin album was released to the music world. At the time, critics didn't understand, but the album's storyline with paranoia, drugs and suicide became a personal soundtrack for many young people going through the difficult times of the period. Of course, it's now considered one of Reed's main masterpieces, but he never performed the album live. In 2006, Reed finally did, and a concert film of the shows, Lou Reed's Berlin (Genius Products), which was edited from five nights at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York is available. To commemorate the anniversary and release of the new album, Berlin Live At St Anns Warehouse (coming on 10/21/2008 from Matador), Reed will perform the song, Caroline Says, Pt. II (view a new, live clip on our Today's Video Clip page) on Late Night With David Letterman this Friday night. He'll be supported by an orchestra on this one. The film/dvd was directed by acclaimed painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel (Diving Bell and the Butterlfy). The soundtrack for the film features additional contributions from Sharon Jones (Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings), Rupert Christie, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
