MUSIC NEWS - Showing his support for union workers, Neil Young's concert tonight (October 30) at The Forum in Inglewood/Los Angeles has been cancelled at Mr Young's request. After Sunday's Bridge School Benefit Concert, Young was informed that the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) union, Local 33, was planning to picket his Forum show. Striking workers at the indoor venue are in the midst of a contract dispute with the venue's owner, Faithful Central Bible Church. Young decided to cancel the performance rather than cross the picket line at his show. Young and his wife are honorary lifetime members of the IATSE.
"I am extremely disappointed to have to choose between satisfying my fans or backing my brothers and sisters of the IATSE," Young says in a statement from San Diego. "I will miss playing in Los Angeles and apologize to my fans for the inconvenience this has caused." Young's song "Union Man" was on his 1980 album "Hawks & Doves". The LA show will be rescheduled for a tbd date in 2009. Ticket holders will be able to get refunds at place of purchase. Other Neil Young news, here.
