MUSIC NEWS- His third solo album or, if we're really lucky, the third Velvet Revolver album are in Slash's 2009 plans. We may even see both! The rock guitarist recently told Billboard that he's "at the very tail end of the demo phase" for the solo project, and he intends to start recording early next year. He started writing tunes while on Velvet Revolver's last tour and said that his new album will have "touches" of his past VR work and Guns N' Roses, "there's really no particular direction. I just wanted to take a little bit of a break from all the politics and the democracy that is a band and just sort of do my own thing for a little bit. There will be a lot of stuff I don't have the freedom to do in a band situation." Without revealing who, Slash said he's planning to use different singers for each of the album's songs; "They're all sort of well-known singers," "It's sort of like how I go play on a lot of other people's records, so other people will just play on this one."
His solo project could end up getting delayed should Velvet Revolver finds a replacement for vocalist Scott Weiland soon. The group had an offer to run their the search via a reality TV show (like INXS), but turned that down; "There's such a huge lack of integrity in that process" -- but is considering a variety of possibilities, including some established singers whose interest has surprised the band.
With all of the Guns N Roses, "Chinese Democracy" press lately, it's a good time for Slash to get active again. Note that Slash will also appear on the release of Les Paul & Friends, A Tribute to a Legend cd. He has also agreed to perform at the Les Paul tribute concert in Cleveland, OH on November 15.
