MUSIC NEWS- The Sacramento Bee newspaper reports that Chi Cheng, 38, bassist for the Deftones was involved in a serious car crash and is now in a San Jose, CA hospital, in serious, but stable condition. The band's singer, Chino Moreno, says Chi Cheng was injured in the crash Monday in Santa Clara. Reports are that it's "very serious." The The Deftones were formed in in Sacramento, CA in 1988 and released their first album in 1995 on Madonna's Maverick Records label. They received a Grammy Award for Elite, a tune on their 2000 album, "White Pony", for best metal performance. The Deftones have been working on their sixth album, called Eros for release in spring 2009 for Warner. Our best wishes to Mr Cheung and his family!
UPDATE 11/10/08 - Doctors are "optimistic" that Cheng fortunately will recover from life-threatening injuries suffered in the crash. According to a blog post this weekend, the band said Cheng was able to move his lower lip after prompting by his father, and both of his legs responded with movement after a tendon reflex test !!! Great news !
