MUSIC NEWS - Reports are that Mitch Mitchell, the drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience band, was found dead in his Portland, OR., hotel room on Wednesday. The (Portland) Oregonian said Mitchell, 62, was performing in town as part of a Hendrix tribute band and was found dead at around 3 am at the Benson Hotel. Mitchell was with the Experience Hendrix Tour, which performed Friday at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland. It was the last stop on the West Coast leg of the tour. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner's office said the cause of death was unknown and was still under examination. British-born Mitchell played for the Jimi Hendrix Experience in the late 1960s and did session work in the years after the legendary guitarist's death in 1970. He was the last surviving member of the Experience and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as part of the group. No word on funeral arrangements. Hendrix died in 1970 and Noel Redding, bassist for the trio, died in 2003.
