UPDATE 12/11/08 - Tonite Morrissey was on hand in London to unveil a playback of his new 12-track Polydor/Decca album, "Years of Refusal,” but he made no comment on recent mentions of a Smiths reunion. At Piccadilly's Pigalle Club, Morrissey was introduced by the recently appointed Polydor president Ferdy Unger-Hamilton, who described Morrissey as "an artist we're all very proud of." Standing next to a large image of the album sleeve, featuring Morrissey holding a baby, the singer joked, "That's my son." Produced by Jerry Finn, “Years of Refusal” was one of the last albums Finn worked on before his death this summer. A world tour is set to kick off in the US in February 2009.
UPDATE 12/17/08 - Morrissey has announced the signing of a US deal with Lost Highway Records for the release of his new album, "Years of Refusal". Out February 17 in the states, the album will be issued in conjunction with the former Smiths frontman's Attack label. Lost Highway is best known for its roots and country-leaning acts like Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett and Lucinda Williams. Though the label is also the US home to Van Morrison and Elvis Costello. "Refusal" will be supported by an extensive North American tour, including shows in three different New York venues (Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall, Carnegie Hall). Polydor will handle the release internationally. The initial single "I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris" arrives February. 9; guitar legend Jeff Beck guests on the track "Black Cloud."
