MUSIC NEWS- The eclectic and political DJ duo Thievery Corporation has announced the first batch of shows for their 2009 North American tour. Called "Radio Retaliation", the tour starts with fourteen gigs on the East Coast/Mid West, with two Canadian dates, and is in support of their fifth studio album "Radio Retaliation". The album was released on September 23, 2008 on ESL Music. The run begins in their hometown of Washington, DC, with 5 shows at the 9:30 Club on January 27, thru the 31st. The tour was originally scheduled for just three nights, but the intial shows sold-out fast so two additional gigs were added. The tour continues February 20 at Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL, with dates following through a March 7 appearance at the Landerado Music Festival at Bicentennial Park in Miami. Other highlights include a February 24 show at the new House of Blues venue in Boston, MA, and a February 25-26 run at Terminal 5 in NYC. "Radio Retaliation" is the follow-up to their 2006's mix compilation "Versions," and adds to the duo's slate of politically charged songs. "There’s no excuse for not speaking out at this point, with the suspension of habeas corpus, outsourced torture, illegal wars of aggression, fuel, food, and economic crises," Garza explained in a statement. "It’s hard to close your eyes and sleep while the world is burning around you. If you are an artist, this is the most essential time to speak up."
