MUSIC NEWS - Coldplay has announced plans to kick off a North American summer tour starting on July 10 at the Amphitheater at Clark County in Portland, OR. Currently, only fourteen shows are confirmed through early August, but more are expected to be announced. Tix for concerts in San Diego, Toronto, Charlotte, NC and Raleigh, NC will go on sale February 13 with Tampa, FL and Houston, TX shows available February 21. The remaining shows start selling on February. 14 (itinerary below).
The Brit group has been nominated up for seven Grammys on Sunday; that includes album of the year for 2008's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" and song of the year for "Viva La Vida".
Sunday's Grammys nearly became a legal battleground for the band, as Joe Satriani's attorney initially planned to serve the group legal papers over the guitarist's plagarism charge. This as a result of the bands British's lawyers repeatedly failing to acknowledge the claim. COLDPLAY has since relented and have hired US attorney's. They have now agreed to discuss the matter with Satriani's legal team, preventing a possibly embarassing scene for the Brit band. Satriani's lawyer, Howard King, was prepared to serve Coldplay with legal documents at the event and was to have a camera crew on hand to film what transpired.
Coldplay will be touring Japan, the UK and Australia directly after the Grammys. With four noms, the band co-leads the list of BRIT Award nominees. The honors will be given out February 18 in London.
