MUSIC NEWS - Eighteen years is a long time for any relationship, but 18 years with the same record company can seem like forever. So, COUNTING CROWS decision to leave Geffen should be no surprise, especially with the ways in which the music biz has changes. CC singer Adam Durvitz posted on the band's website announce, and explain, their decision, he said, "When Counting Crows signed our first record contract, we were an unknown band signed to DGC, the cool indie-flavored boutique label of Geffen Records."
"Eighteen years ago, Counting Crows was just a little band from Berkeley. Geffen Records helped put us on the map and then they were our partner for almost two decades. We want to thank every person who worked hard for so many years to make us a successful band. We're going to go out now and see what the world has to offer a band with a lot of ideas and a lot of energy and, hopefully, a lot of years left in a career that's already surpassed our wildest dreams."
Where they're going is not stated, but he talks about the new music industry, so maybe they'll take the business side in-house and self release. We wish them the best. Read his post at countingcrows.com
