MUSIC NEWS - Fountains of Wayne, the kitschy store on Route 46 W in Wayne,NJ that inspired the name of a rock band, closed its doors to shoppers on Friday, fueling speculation that it was planning to go out of business. according to NJ's THE RECORD. The report says, some shoppers were told Thursday by employees that the retailer would close after a clearance sale. Don Winters, whose family has owned and operated the store for more than 40 years, told The Record the situation is still evolving, and news on the fate of the business would likely be released next week. The store, located in Wayne, sells lawn ornaments, outdoor furniture and quirky Christmas decorations. The store received international attention after Montclair, NJ native Adam Schlesinger founded the band Fountains of Wayne, and the group had a hit song with "Stacy's Mom." FoB, the band's, their latest album is Traffic and Weather, while Mr Schlesinger is involved in a new music project, the band, Tinted Windows.
And, in 2001, the store had a featured role on HBO's "The Sopranos" (buy Sopranos on dvd here).
