MUSIC NEWS - Davy Knowles, who racked up a noteworthy 300+ performances in more than 40 US states with his band Back Door Slam during the 2007-2008 tour in support of their debut CD ROLL AWAY, will take the stage on his own for the first time when he opens for the legendary Jeff Beck on a series of theater venue dates beginning April 6 in Scranton, PA. The acclaimed singer and songwriter, known for his sizzling guitar playing, will use the three-week tour to preview material from his forthcoming new album as well as revisit his ROLL AWAY tunes and his classic blues favorites. Since the recent demise of BDS as we knew it, and parting company with longtime bandmates Adam Jones and Ross Doyle, Knowles has been recording new material in LA with Grammy®-winning singer-songwriter-guitarist Peter Frampton (complete your Frampton cd library here) producing. The yet-untitled CD is planed for an early summer 2009 release from Blix Street Records. Prior to the new CD, Blix Street is releasing an eagerly-anticipated retrospective collection to coincide with the Knowles’ Jeff Beck shows. BACK DOOR SLAM—LIVE FROM BONNAROO; a double vinyl album and digital download, includes the band’s signature songs from ROLL AWAY, (buy cd here) among them “Come Home,” “Heavy On My Mind,” “Gotta Leave,” and “It’ll All Come Around” as well as covers of John Hiatt’s “Riding With the King,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” and “Back Door Slam,” the Robert Cray song for which Knowles named the band. Captured live at the June 2008 festival in Manchester, TN , Back Door Slam’s scorching performance was one of the concert highlights of the year. The Village Voice’s Nick Anderman wrote: “Davy Knowles, the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter, is talented like very few bluesmen these days. He shreds like a young Robert Cray and wails like the love of his life was just hit by a truck. Highly recommended.”
Following his shows with Jeff Beck, Knowles will complete work on the new CD and assemble musicians for scheduled summer festival appearances as BDS and future shows. Full tour plans for Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam will be announced shortly.

Jeff Beck ought to be opening for Davy. I love them both, but I prefer Davy, with his incredible voice.
