MUSIC NEWS - There he was, Kanye West, onstage Saturday night at the Levi's Fader Fort at SXSW in Austin, TX, striking out at his detractors in front of the large and growing crowd, including many who didn't think he should have been at SXSW, even though it was as host for his own label's showcase. Kanye's appearance, one of the worst kept secrets at the fest, as was METALLICA's gig, had the line for the 9pm showcase the whole length of the Levi's / Fader Fort. West performed beneath a tent as part of a party sponsored by Fader Magazine and Levi's. He put on a long show, mostly alternating songs with lesser known rappers from his G.O.O.D. Music record label ("Getting Out Our Dreams"). West was obvioulsy there to promote his label's talent, including rappers Consequence and Kid Cudi, who performed his hit "Day 'N' Nite." But the concert ended up with cameos from West's fellow Chicago rapper Common and the R&B singer Erykah Badu, both of whom were cheered wildly by the thousands in attendance.
