LOGGINS & MESSINA Back for Summer 2009 Reunion

MUSIC NEWS- One of MNN faves', LOGGINS & MESSINA will continue the reunion they started four years ago with another concert tour this summer. The '70s singer/songwriter/California-country/rockers have begun to announce dates for a tour, currently only with seven shows, though more are expected. The shows kick off on August 20 in Hyannis, MA, and run through a September 24 appearance in Durham, NC. The current itinerary is listed below. Their reunion 2005 tour was their time playing together since 1976. Back then, the pair recorded a number of successful albums, first finding hits with "Danny's Song", "Angry Eyes" and "Your Mama Don't Dance" among others, but split up before the end of that decade. No word yet on who will be in the band.

Columbia/Legacy issued "The Best: Loggins & Messina - Sittin' in Again." (buy cd here) before the 2005 tour. The album has their hits such as "Your Mama Don't Dance," "Danny's Song" and "Angry Eyes." Later that year, Rhino released a live album documenting one of the duo's early reunion shows from the 2005 tour. "Live: Sittin' In Again at the Santa Barbara Bowl" features 13 songs, and was recorded at the outdoor California venue (buy dvd here) .

Kenny Loggins has gone on to write numerous hits in the '80s and '90s as a solo artist, including tunes on the soundtracks of "Top Gun" and "Footloose," while Messina has moved away from celebrity-dom, and has been active recently as a successful songwriting coach.

Kenny has recently announced the July 21 release of his new, ALL JOIN IN family album (via Disney Pearl) ! The album includes classics like as The Beatles' “All Together Now” and “Two Of Us” (the latter being his first studio recording in decades with Jim Messina), Randy Newman's “You’ve Got A Friend In Me,” The Del Vikings' 1950's classic “Come Go With Me,” Cheryl Wheeler’s “Ghandi/Buddha,” Traffic’s “You Can All Join In” (appropriately joined by the song’s writer and former Traffic member Dave Mason) and Donovan’s 1960's classic “First There Is A Mountain". Also included are Kenny penned tunes, “Long Tailed Cat” and “Moose N’ Me,” both songs were written more than 30 years ago and “Underneath the Same Sky” from the soundtrack to the Disney animated film, My Friends Tigger & Pooh: And a Musical Too.

UPDATE 4/24/09- POCO, (w/ special appearance by Richie Furay), fresh off their Stagecoach Festival reunion, is on tour, and has been signed on as opening act for select shows!
