MUSIC NEWS - Canadian singer-songwriter-record mogul Nelly Furtado has announced the signing of the first act to her record company, Nelstar. It's Toronto's electro-pop 4 piece, Fritz Helder & the Phantoms. The band's album, Greatest Hits, is to be released July 7, 2009 in North America thru Last Gang Records' (via Fontana/Universal in the USA and Universal in Canada). Their album's first single,releasing this spring, will be Lagerfield Lady, an homage to fashion icon Karl Lagerfield. Check out the video for the tune at fritzhelder.com.
Nelly said: "I've been thinking about a way to help Fritz Helder for a while and this venture grew out of my love for the band, their art and their work ethic. I am as committed as they are to bringing their creativity to the world". Fritz Helder & the Phantoms started out as a dance troupe that was choreographed by Helder and have appeared with Furtado on tour. FHhas also worked wtih Lady Gaga, Dragonette and Semi-Precious Weapons.
"We love Nelly and this new partnership is a very exciting opportunity for us. It's empowering to work with a combination of people who believe in our project and are willing to help us see it through," said Helder, the group's main vocalist, in their announcement press release.
