MUSIC NEWS - The man who just can't stop touring and making music, WILLIE NELSON, who just finished a great round of US concert dates with Asleep at the Wheel, has announced more cities to his never-ending tour. His new run starts up today, March 1 in Austin, TX, and brings him accross the Southeast USA, including a seven-show trip across Florida, through March 22. A short break, then resumes in early April, when Nelson hits the road with fellow country legend, Ray Price in Canada. The Red-Headed Stranger will then continue US dates in mid-April and early June. His current itinerary is below.
Mr Nelson's recent tour with Asleep at the Wheel showed off music from their new collaboration, "Willie & the Wheel," which was released earlier this month and landed at # 15 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. The cd is a collection of classic western swing songs chosen by record producer Jerry Wexler, who died last August at age 91. Before they wrapped their joint trek, Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel filmed the 35th season-opener for the Austin City Limits tv program. "Willie & the Wheel" follows a steady stream of outstanding collaborations for Willie, including last year's "Two Men With The Blues" (but the cd here and dvd here) which featured Nelson and jazz master Wynton Marsalis, and 2007's "Last of the Breed," a classic-country work between Nelson, Merle Haggard and Ray Price.
Other Willie music news; out March, 2009 is a live CD of a 2007 performance on his "Last of the Breed Tour". A DVD (buy dvd here) of the 35-song concert in Rosemont, IL, is already available. And, Willie is also prepping the March 17 release of "Naked Willie," a 17-track set of recordings from the late '60s that have been stripped down to their original studio sound.
