US TOUR, EP RELEASE and New Video NEWS
UK-based indie-rockers The Boxer Rebellion have announced the US release of its recently-issued "Live from London" album and first ever US show dates! On March 9, 2009, the group recorded a full live set at Apple's flagship store (London) before hundreds of contest-winners, making them the first unsigned band to appear at the location. The new, 9-track "LIVE..." EP features songs from both their "Union," as well as from the band's debut, "Exits, LPs and is available now in the iTunes Music Store. The new record includes live, unedited versions of tracks such as "Evacuate," "Semi-Automatic," "We Have This Place Surrounded," and "Flashing Red Light Means Go."
The Boxer Rebellion made headlines in January '09 by becoming the first unsigned band in history to break the Billboard Top 100 Albums Chart on a digital-only release. Fueled by an unprecedented iTunes "Global Single of the Week" on lead track "Evacuate" (clocking up an amazing 560,000 downloads), the band's self-produced, self-released album "Union" also broke the iTunes Album Chart Top 5 in the US and the UK, a mere 48 hours after it's release. For a period, the album was outselling Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Coldplay, and also knocked the almighty My Morning Jacket off the iTunes US Alternative Chart top-spot, to take pole position.
The Boxer Rebellion is; American vocalist Nathan Nicholson (from Maryville, TN), Aussie guitarist Todd Howe, and a talented rhythm section; Englishmen Adam Harrison (bass) and Piers Hewitt (drums). The band has a well deserved live gig reputation. Says frontman Nicholson, "Except for playing coffee shop open-mics during my pre-band college student days, the opportunity to play the States seemed like it would never come to fruition. However, over our years of releasing music we seem to have amassed quite a fanbase in the USA. We found it fitting to confirm our debut appearance at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, followed by 2 nights at the incredible Mercury Lounge in New York. We look forward to being back later in the year for an extended tour."
