Originally released on July, 11, 1969 to coincide with the Apollo 11 moon landings, ‘Space Oddity’ was a cultural landmark for David Bowie as an artist; it was featured by the BBC in its television coverage of the lunar landing, and the song later won an Ivor Novello award.
