MUSIC NEWS - NYC's Noncommercial radio station WFUV (90.7 FM, WFUV.org ) and NPR Music have announced they will broadcast and webcast George Wein's Folk Festival 50 at Newport Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd. WFUV Music Director Rita Houston and Bob Boilen, host of NPR Music's "All Songs Considered," will be at Newport, RI's Fort Adams State Park to bring listeners two days of music from the storied annual festival, now in its 50th year.
WFUV will broadcast live performances from Tift Merritt, Billy Bragg, the Avett Brothers, Gillian Welch, Fleet Foxes, The Decemberists and Pete Seeger on Saturday, August 1 from 12:00-5:00 PM EST. And, WFUV and NPR Music will webcast all the weekend's stellar performances at WFUV.org and NPR.org live and for free. George Wein's Folk Festival 50 at Newport has an amazing line up and will include performances by Iron & Wine, Mavis Staples, Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman, Ben Kweller, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Brett Dennen, The Low Anthem, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Neko Case, Josh Ritter, Del McCoury Band, Guy Clark, Deer Tick, Elvis Perkins in Dearland and more.
