MUSIC NEWS - MORRISSEY has made the request that his fans don't buy any of the forthcoming box set reissues of his back catalogue music. The former Smiths singer made the request in a statement posted on the fan site,True-to-you.net, that he won't receive any money from the upcoming re-issues (out on November 2, 2009), and that no one asked for his approval.
The message said; "Morrissey would like it to be known that he has not been consulted by EMI/HMV/Parlophone [record labels, not the UK music retailer] with regards to two forthcoming boxed sets of Morrissey singles,". "Morrissey does not approve such releases and would ask people not to bother buying them. Morrissey receives no royalty payments from EMI for any back catalogue, and has not received a royalty from EMI since 1992, the message read.
"Morrissey also does not approve of, and was not consulted on, the [past release] Rhino box of Smiths CDs, or the Warner releases of Smiths LPs on 180 gram vinyl." "Morrissey last received a royalty payment from Warners ten years ago and, once again, he would ask people not to bother buying the reissued LPs or CDs."
This is reminescent of his issues over last year's dvd release of Live at the Hollywood Bowl, he then asked fans not to buy the release as the cover art was "appalling".
The Morrissey reissues include singles and B-sides re-packaged as new seven-inch vinyl releases.
So, what are your plans? Will you buy the upcoming releases?

Frankly, Mr. Shankly...
no, I won't.
I stick to the old records anyway.
Best of which is an old tape which a friend created me 1986 on a damaged tape recorder, whining for the first few songs, half a note up and down in the rhythm of the turning cassette reel - I was astonished to hear it one day without the whining - it was perfect that way already.
Still lauging about that today :)
