MUSIC NEWS - Kinks frontman RAY DAVIES has announced the release of a new album, the imaginative "Kinks Choral Collection" (November 10 release via Decca; re-released in the UK with extra bonus track November 23) and that he will briefly tour the USA to promote the release. The tour will start up on November 12 in San Francisco at the Warfield, while ending on November 24 in Montclair, NJ.
The new album from the legendary singer/songwrite features classic Kinks & Ray Davies tunes arranged and performed by his band (Bill Shanley -guitar , Milton McDonald - guitar ,Toby Baron - drums, Dick Nolan - Bass, Ian Gibbons - Keyboards, Gunnar Frick - Keyboards ) and the Crouch End Festival Chorus (watch clip below of Ray and the choir) and has been out in the UK since the summer. Davies said the idea for the album came to him in 2007 when he worked with alongside choirmaster David Temple and an 80-piece choir for his "Flatlands" piece, a commission from the Norfolk and Norwich Festival."With a song like 'Waterloo Sunset,' I feel as if the people I wrote it for are singing it," Davies said in a statement posted on his website. "I know some of the singers in the choir, though not all, but as a group I imagine them all living in north London, and they are my subject matter as well as the people singing it. There's some sort of symmetry there.
