MUSIC NEWS - We're heading over to NPR Music to listen to the advance release streams of two upcoming albums: The Swell Season’s Strict Joy and One Fast Move Or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur by Ben Gibbard and Jay Farrar. Both are available for free, on-demand listening at npr.org/music as part of the site's "Exclusive First Listen" series.
The Swell Season are Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova and are releasing their new Strict Joy
on October 27 on Anti-Records. It's available to stream from October 13 to 27 here. The duo is probably best known for the award-winning soundtrack to Once, the hit indie movie in which they also co-starred
Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Jay Farrar (Sun Volt) joined together to create One Fast Move Or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur. The two met while recording songs for a documentary about Kerouac’s life, and were inspired to continue their collaboration with a full album. Gibbard’s well-known indie-pop style mixes with Farrar’s flair for nontraditional country sounds on this collection of original songs based on Kerouac’s 1962 novel, Big Sur
. One Fast Move or I'm Gone is being released this fall to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Kerouac’s death, and will be available at NPR Music from October 14 to 20. Hear their music here.
