MUSIC NEWS - Police on Long Island, NY were forced to close down a mall appearance by a rising teen pop star sensation Justin Bieber this weekend after 3000 (mainly ) young female fans got out of control. With two hours to go til Canadian popster Bieber was due to hit the stage at the Long Island shopping mall when fans surged forward, knocking down the flimsy rope barricades. Five fans were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the cops ordered the appearance be cancelled.
What we find interesting, Tweeters take note, was that Island Def Jam VP James Roppo was arrested at the event, apparently because he refused to Tweet via Bieber's Twitter account to tell kids to go home. A police spokesperson told the press: "We asked for his help in getting the crowd to go away by sending out a Twitter message. By not cooperating with us, we feel he put lives in danger and the public at risk". Take this as a warning artist managers, label execs and PR folks !
Bieber did later report via Twitter that he was refused entry to the mall, confirming his appearance would not go on as planned. He also claimed he was threatened with arrest if he didn't comply with police orders to get out of there.
Bieber's making the rounds promoting his debut album, 'My World'.
