DEF LEPPARD Considers Cartoon Show Among New Marketing Ideas

MUSIC NEWS- Hard rockers, Def Leppard and band members/songwriters Joe Elliott (lead singer), Rick “Sav” Savage (bass), Phil Collen (guitar), Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Rick Allen (drummer) have announced a "strategic agreement" with Primary Wave.  The firm will market and handle the band's song catalog; tunes like; “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, “Photograph”, “Love Bites”, “Rock of Ages,” “Armageddon It,” “C’mon C’mon” and “Nine Lives”, a job previously performed by Sony/ATV. The copyrights will continue to be owned by the songs' various composers.  

“We couldn’t be happier to be a part of the Primary Wave family,” said Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliott. Commented Phil Collen, one of the band’s guitarists, “I’m excited to expand the reach and influence of our group and our songs.”

 

“Def Leppard is one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands of our time,” said Primary Wave CEO Larry Mestel.  “We are honored to have the chance to work with them and are confident that we will be able to build upon the impact of their songs and the legacy that they will no doubt have for generations to come.”

Among the ideas being floated is a cartoon TV show. The project is still in the early stages, and has not been pitched to the networks, but it will show the five members of the group in a fictional, adventurous setting. Primary Wave is said to also be developing what Mestel called "unusual" videogame and cell phone applications.

The band toured North America this past summer with Poison and Cheap Trick but have no recording or touring plans at this time, a band spokesman said.

The group fullfilled its contract with Universal Music and is no longer committed to a label. Their last album, "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge", was released in May 2008.
