MUSIC NEWS - Word out is that John Mellencamp has nearly completed recording and “assembling” the “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County”; his musical theater collaboration with author Stephen King.
The show is now running two hours and 10 minutes, but more edits will likely happen once producer T-Bone Burnett completes the tunes. When finished, the recording will be available in a package thats said to have the full text, two discs featuring the entire production of the script and songs performed by the cast, and a third CD of the songs only. Plans are for the cd/book set to be released before the show opens in September 2010 at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA.
The story involves domestic turmoil, and will have an amazing cast; Kris Kristofferson (as Joe, the father) and Elvis Costello (as The Shape), Rosanne Cash (as Monique, the mother) and as her sons, Will Daily (Frank), Dave Alvin (Jack), Alvin’s real-life brother Phil Alvin (Andy) and John (Drake). Also set to hit the boards in the production are Sheryl Crow, Neko Case, boxer Joe Frazier along with Stephen King himself.
