Noel Gallagher Announces His First post-Oasis Gig

MUSIC NEWS- Noel Gallagher has just announced his first set of post-Oasis concerts this March (25 & 26), as part of a series of giga for the UK charity, Teenage Cancer Trust.  He'll be joining the roster of rockers, Artic Monkeys, Them Crooked Vultures, The Who and  Depeche Mode, among others for the charity gigs that take place starting February 17 at the London Royal Albert Hall.

Crosby, Stills & Nash Back at Work on Their Covers Album

MUSIC NEWS - Backline is reporting that Crosby, Stills & Nash have started up again on their "covers" album they started nearly a year ago, still with producer Rick Rubin at the helm.  The classic rock trio already reportedly has seven tracks completed and has plans for another twelve, for the album, their first since "Looking Forward" came out in 1999 under the CSN&Y banner.

Rehearsals begin this week, with previous reports that Gregg Allman's "Midnight Rider" and Bob Dylan's "Girl From North Country" are to be on the album, due out at the end of this year. 

In the meantime, CSN once again will hit the road for a summer North American tour. The threesome (plus backup band, will travel in the USA & Canada in June, then visit Europe, then back to North America for more shows. Expect an announcement soon.

MY MORNING JACKET Sets Spring Shows with Presevation Hall Jazz Band

MUSIC NEWS - For the first time in almost a year Indie rockers MY MORNING JACKET announced a return to the road for a short run of spring dates with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band opening.  The rock five piece start up in Birmingham, AL on April 20 and continue with shows in eight cities through the Southeast USA. The current itineray (below) ends on May 2 in Columbus, OH.

MMJ's Jim James worked with PHJB in 2009  at New Orleans' legendary Preservation Hall, recording two tracks for the band's upcoming release, "Preservation: An Album to Benefit Preservation Hall & The Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program" (order below) which is due to be released on February 12.  James recently said;

"When I got the invitation to go to the legendary Preservation Hall--where so much of the music we now know and love on this earth found its early roots--I did not waste a minute," James explained in a press release. "Getting to sing while the guys played with such glorious bursts of sound--all live in that holy room with the ghosts and garbage trucks crankin' along--was an experience I'll never forget."

SIA Returns to North American for Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS -  Australian singer/songwriter, Sia has announced an April 2010 return to the North America tour circuit, her first in two years, as she embarks on a headlining run, then off to Europe!  April will also bring us her fourth studio album along with “The We Meaning You Tour".

The run begins with Sia’s in Vancouver, BC for her first show of 2010, on April 10 gig at Commodore Ballroom. She continues til she wraps up on May 6 at Terminal 5 in NYC.  She's also booked to perform at the 2010 edition of Coachella (April 17).   Full itinerary is below.  Tickets go on sale February 5 with a pre-sale starting up on February 3. An active Tweeter, keep an eye on Sia's Twitter account as she will likely offer up more info and pre-sale passwords.

The new studio album, We Are Born, will arrive in April, though no firm date has been announced.   We Are Born follow-ups Sia’s breakthrough 2008 album  Some People Have Real Problems.

Live Nation to Give Out $6.5M in Exec Bonuses as Part of Tickermaster Merger Deal

MUSIC NEWS - With the justice department on Monday approving the merger of Live Nation Entertainment and Ticketmaster, word is out that Live Nation will pay $6.5 million in executive merger bonuses.  This, according to a Friday SEC filing, and revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.  For his part in the merger deal, president and CEO Michael Rapino picks up $3 million in cash, while executive chairman Irv Azoff got $2 million in cash for his work. (why so little, Irv?)

Once the merger is done, Live Nation's compensation committee recommends bonuses for Kathy Willard, executive VP and CEO ($1 million cash), and Michael Rowles, executive VP and general counsel ($500,000 cash).

PARAMORE Announces Spring Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Rockers Paramore today announced details of their upcoming Spring 2010 tour that kicks off on April 26 with a home state show in Tennessee at Knoxville's Civic Coliseum. Shows continue on through mid-May (full itinerary below) with Relient K and fun joining up as support acts. Official Paramore Fan Club member? Remaining tickets then go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6.

This USA tour follows up on their recent European run, a trek that had the Grammy Award-nominated band playing to sold-out crowds across the continent, including London’s Wembley Arena.  Next month will see Paramore venturing across the Pacific for a long-awaited tour of Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, which already includes sold-out shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND Announces Extensive Summer 2010 Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Already ranked #1 as top revenue generating performer of the past decade, Dave Matthews Band have announced a new round of 49 tour dates, for spring / summer 2010.  This time, their annual summer run starts up on May 28 & 29 at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT and ends almost four months later at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN on September 15 (full itinerary below).  The tour will have several varying support acts, such as Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Ben Harper and Relentless7, Gov't Mule and Raphael Saadiq.

Tickets are on sale starting February 26 with word that DMB's mgmt is talking to the Chicago Cubs about a possible Wrigley Field gig, with no deal yet announced.

LOU REED's Metal Machine Trio Plans UK and Euro Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Lou Reed's Metal Machine Trio have announced a UK and European tour starting April 17th, when they perform what is being called a "A Night of Deep Noise."

With Lou Reed (processed & unprocessed guitars & mini continuum), Ulrich Krieger (tenor sax & live-electronics), and Sarth Calhoun (live processing & continuum fingerboard), the Metal Machine Trio concerts, although influenced and inspired by Reed's seminal 1975 album 'Metal Machine Music', won't duplicate the entire, original album, but instead will be performing new unique music, noise and soundscapes.

New York and Newport Jazz Fests Confirmed for 2010

MUSIC NEWS- With the 2009 jazz festival series behind us,  CareFusion and Jazz Impresario George Wein today announced details about the CareFusion Jazz Festival New York and dates for the CareFusion Newport Jazz Festival. Though no word out yet on Wein's Newport Folk Festival for 2010.

DEVO Added To Vancouver Winter Olympic Events

MUSIC NEWS - DEVO, post modern civilization's most visionary and influential rock bands, have accepted an invitation to perform live at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver on February 22, 2010.  The performance will conclude a Victory Ceremony and will be broadcast live on NBC. It’s your duty as citizens of the earth to tune in, watch, listen and learn.

 

This is all part of the growing anticipation of the band’s first studio album in nearly 20 years. With an estimated 3 billion worldwide television viewers, this is probably DEVO’s biggest single event audience and one of many future opportunities to expose their music, knowledge and message to the world. It's been reported that DEVO will perform old favorites as well as future favorites from the upcoming album.  

 

The announcement of DEVO completes the lineup of 15 top North American headline acts for the Whistler Victory Ceremonies, which also includes Feist, Usher, Our Lady Peace and The Fray. Each act will perform for one night from February 13 to 27 during the Games at Whistler Medals Plaza (more information on the lineup @ vancouver2010.com.  For DEVO; Gerald Casale, Bob Casale, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Bob Mothersbaugh,  joined now by drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Guns N’ Roses) they are also currently activating massive scale maneuvers to be unveiled at the appropriate time and place. De-evolution 2010 will include the release of new musical adventures and recordings (featuring an eclectic cast of producers and collaborators), international festival appearances, and a proper tour of North America, Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America.   

FLOGGING MOLLY's "Live at the Greek..." DVD / CD and Tour Announced

MUSIC NEWS -  LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATRE is both a DVD and double CD of Flogging Molly's amazing performance last year,  September 12, 2009 at L.A.'s The Greek Theatre. Directed by Kevin Custer, LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATRE is truly a must have for all Flogging Molly fans. As important, it's also a special introduction for those music fans who have yet to experience Flogging Molly's uniquely powerful live performance. CORINNE BAILEY RAE Out With New "The Sea" Today, and Tour News

Music News- Brit singer/songwriter, Corinne Bailey Rae,  celebrated the release today of her sophomore album, The Sea (out via Capitol Records) with the announcement of her North American tour to kick off on April 9. The tour includes a stop at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival  and is her first stateside in three years (full itinerary below).  You can also look for her on  “Late Show with David Letterman”  (March 1^st) and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (March 8^th).

Rae's self-titled debut came out in 2006 and got her a #1 spot on both the UK Albums and UK R&B charts. It also posted a #4 on The Billboard 200 chart!

MUSIC NEWS- Silversun Pickups to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tonight. January 26!   The band will be playing the single, "Panic Switch" from their latest record, Swoon. Don't forget to set your Tivo's and DVRs !

The band's picked up sone great press with this relese;  "The single from their second CD stiches together the Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, and Sonic Youth into one giant fuzz-gasm", said Rolling Stone of the new single.  And, the Los Angeles Times recently praised their local guys in a cover story about their career from the earliest days to their current Grammy nomination, claiming they've been, "Energizing crowds with stormy rock that often breaks into relief just when the suspense is at its most dizzying high."  MNN couldn't agree more !

ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Adds More Dates to Annual NYC Run

MUSIC NEWS - Due to overwhelming fan demand, five final shows have been added to the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND’s annual New York City residency: March 22, 23, 25, 26, and 27. For 2010, ABB's annual trek to NYC has been moved to the 3200-capacity United Palace Theatre (formerly known as the 175^th Street Theatre) as Cirque du Soleil got a jump on the Allman's mgmt and secured the Beacon for an even longer term run. Tickets for the added dates go on sale to American Express cardholders Friday, January 29 through Friday, February 5 and to the general public Saturday, February 6 via ticketmaster.com.

 

THE BIG TO-DO With the Drive-By Truckers

MUSIC NEWS- The Drive-By Truckers have today announced the first part of The Big To-Do tour, screenings of their documentary, The Secret To A Happy Ending and a free MP3.

The Big To-Do will arrive on March 16, 2010 via ATO Records. In advance, of the release the band will play some weekend runs before kicking off The Big To-Do tour with a two night stand in Atlanta, GA and then heading to SXSW. More dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
