MUSIC NEWS- KCRW gets to be the first radio station to offer a stream of Vampire Weekend’s anticipated sophomore release “Contra” (out January 12 via XL Recordings) in its entirety as part of KCRW’s Album Preview series. The stream will be available at KCRW.com starting Tuesday, January 5 until January 18. Also, KCRW’s all music, online-only stream Eclectic24 will air the full album on January 11 at 8pm PST. Morning Becomes Eclectic host Jason Bentley will host a special live performance by the band --with a horn AND string section on Monday, January 11. Listen and watch live on air (89.9 FM) and online (KCRW.com) at 11:15am PST.
Fitting that KCRW should get the release early, as the Santa Monica-based public radio station was one of the first supporters of Vampire Weekend, playing tracks downloaded from their MySpace page on Morning Becomes Eclectic the morning after their live debut in L.A. at the Troubadour. Support at the station grew with the official release of their self-titled debut.
Catchy and kinetic, their new songs retain the energy that made their afro-pop-influenced debut so refreshing. The addition of deeper lyrical themes and new sounds; from Dancehall to Brazilian baile funk, make this set of songs unique yet entirely their own.
The station is already playing recently released singles “Horchata” and “Cousins” and has said they're thrilled to offer a stream of the full album. More @ KCRW .
And, until January 12, the full CONTRA album can be previewed @ NPR.org

Really liking this new album, definitely going to be picking it up. Shame all their UK tour dates are sold out. Another article about Contra here http://bit.ly/8BwFM3
