MUSIC NEWS - After several years keeping a low profile, Evanescence is on it's way back with a new album. Amy Lee and company have been through changes in the band's lineup and Ms Lee got married since we've heard from them last. Word now is that they've recently entered the studio to start work on their newest effort since 2006's The Open Door with producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band) and Will Hunt at the controls.
Lee recently told Rolling Stone that the new material is inspired by electronic-based bands like Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Portishead and MGMT. "There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t sound like Evanescence, but the heart of the band is still there. This is a really, really, rhythmically driven record. So there’s tons of drum-programming fused with live drums; drums we’re renting a day at a time, like Japanese taiko drums," she said.
She is co-writing new songs with producer/musician Will Hunt, who will probably be the one behind the drum kit on the record (and tour?). "The sounds and influence he brings to the table — programming outer-space awesome sounds you can’t even recognize. I went through a phase where I didn’t know if it was solo time, or go write score music, or what," says Lee. "And then once we wrote together, I realized this is totally Evanescence."
Besides Lee and Hunt, the current lineup of Evanescence is guitarist Terry Balsamo and bassist Dave Campbell (string arrangements too). Seether guitarist Troy McLawhorn is likely also involved, based on his commitments to Seether.
