MUSIC NEWS - After a few recent USA "showcase" gigs, British indie rock / folk imports Mumford & Sons have announced plans to hit the road this spring in North America for an anticipated string of headlining tour dates. The tour kicks off May 13 in Montreal and has the band manueveuring their way across the USA to end up in Kansas City, MO on June 16. On the run, Mumford & Sons will make stops at Bonnaroo and Sasquatch music festivals in Tennessee and Washington state, respectively. The Australian band, Middle East will open all the shows (full tour itinerary below).
Mumford & Sons' US debut album Sigh No More was released lsat month to critical acclaim, with tremendous reviews from The New York Times and others (to which MNN agrees). The band recently played to sold-out crowds in New York City and L.A and made their first TV appearances, on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Mumford & Sons' gutsy, banjo-driven, old-time sound reminds us of the best of Crosby, Stills & Nash combined with the power of Kings of Leon with Brian Wilson harmonies tossed in. The album was recorded at Eastcote Studios with the band teaming up with producer Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Bjork and Peter Gabriel).
Since their start in 2007, Mumford & Sons have self-produced three EPs and toured the UK extensively, bringing their rootsy folk / rock across the country to fan and critical acclaim. They're now set to do the same in North America.
