MUSIC NEWS - Longtime rocker, Peter Wolf, is back with a brilliant new collection of tunes, late night reveries and house party stomps. It's called 'Midnight Souvenirs' (produced by Kenny White and Mr Wolf) and will be out April 6 via UMe/Verve Records (order below thru MNN).
The new album from the J Geils Band frontman kicks off with the push and pull of the duet "Tragedy," featuring Shelby Lynne. Written with longtime collaborator and GRAMMY winner Angelo Petraglia (Kings of Leon), the song came quickly. "We were just tossing lines back and forth,"
Wolf says, "and thinking how perfect this song would be for me and one of our vocal favorites, Shelby Lynne." He remarked that "I've always been a fan of Shelby's, but I never met her." Quick as you can say music biz connections, a mutual friend brought Peter and Shelby together at a L.A. meeting, and "Tragedy" is the result of that musical destiny. Shelby's signature smoky voice is what we call real soul. After cutting that track in LA, the two became fast friends. Wolf says, "It felt like we'd known each other forever. That session began a very close friendship." Give "Tragedy" at listen @ Wolf's MySpace page.
