MUSIC NEWS- The Times Square NYC concert venue the Nokia Theatre is no more, and Grammy Award-winning band Linkin Park will be celebrating the release of their new album, A Thousand Suns (out on Machine Shop Recordings / Warner Bros Records) at the newly named Best Buy Theater with an inaugural performance on September 14, 2010. The new name for Manhattan's concert and events showplace comes as AEG Live and Best Buy announced a multi-year naming rights agreement for the venue.
We know sponsorships are a core part of the music biz, but we must say that Nokia Theatre was less blatant as the new "Best But" moniker. Does this mean the prices for shows at the theatre will be the cheapest in NYC?
The special performance at Best Buy Theater (1515 Broadway @ 44th Street) by the band, who easily sells out large arenas, will have Linkin Park performing material from the new album for the first time in public along with some of their best-known previous material. And, the concert will be Linkin Park's only public performance in the USA in 2010 with the band kicking off a worldwide arena tour in October, with North American dates expected in early 2011.
Presale for current LPU members (official Linkin Park fan club - www.linkinpark/lpu) as well as fans that pre-order LPUX by August 22nd can purchase tickets first, starting at 10:00am EST on August 23rd. Non-members that pre-order A Thousand Suns via the band's site by August 22nd, will also be invited to a presale the same day beginning at 3:00pm.
Other upcoming AEG Live shows at the venue include rising R&B star Jason Derulo, Ingrid Michaelson, NBC's 'Last Comic Standing' Live, Gary Numan, Cypress Hill, a five-night run with rock legends The Black Crowes, Paul Weller, Grinderman, and four nights with superstar comedian Jim Gaffigan.
