Neil Young's LE NOISE Film to Premiere on You Tube

MUSIC NEWS- Neil Young's Le Noise Film, the 38-minute black and white film of eight live-in-studio performances of the eight songs that appear on legendary rocker Neil Young’s brand-new album Le Noise ,will available for your viewing pleasure exclusively on YouTube starting on September 30th.

It will appear in the Spotlight section of You-Tube’s homepage as well as on Young's You Tube channel. In addition to the performances, there's also a personal introduction by Young himself, and behind-the-scenes clips from album producer, Daniel Lanois, and more. The performances, shot by filmmaker Adam CK Vollick, feature Young on acoustic and electric guitars at Lanois’ home studio in Silverlake, CA, where Young and Lanois recorded Le Noise.

Soulive Back with "Rubber Soulive" and Tour

MUSIC NEWS - The NY based soul/funk outfit, Soulive has announced a USA tour that keeps them playing live thru the end of 2010, in support of their ninth studio album, the fab, Rubber Soulive.

The 27-show run starts up this weekend with a New York City hometown blow-out dubbed The Royal Family Ball at Terminal 5.  It will feature special guests John Scofield, Talib Kweli, Christian Scott, Big Sam and Maurice Brown, as well as Royal Family crew Nigel Hall, Lettuce and The Shady Horns.

Other tour highlights include festival appearances at Bear Creek Festival and Clearwater Jazz Festival, stops throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West Coast and a handful of two-night stands, including Port City Music Hall in Portland, Higher Ground in Burlington, The Independent in San Francisco, Cervante's in Denver and a New Year's Eve celebration at Paradise in Boston.

The Joy Formidable Out with "I Don't Want..." Video, Preps USA Tour

MUSIC NEWS - The Welsh indie-rock trio The Joy Formidable today announced the premier of their new video for "I Don't Want To See You Like This," available today on their website.  

The video was shot in the Gower Peninsula of Wales, during the worst rains the area had seen in over a decade. "It's rugged terrain to begin with, and in normal conditions it would be a difficult shoot," says the band's guitarist and singer, Ritzy Bryan.  "But add the torrential rain and electrical storms -- let's just say we were tested in every possible way. But I'm so happy we did it there, because it's where the  song was written."  The band went to the Gower Peninsula earlier this year to do some recording. "I had been there when I was a child with my parents," Bryan explains.  "And returning evoked a flood of memories that inspired me to write the song."

JOSH GROBAN Back With the Rick Rubin Produced "Illuminations"

MUSIC NEWS - Josh Groban today annouces his fifth album, ILLUMINATIONS, one that's said to break new ground of artistic and personal growth.  The new set is due out on November 15th, 2010, from Reprise Records. The album is the result of the unexpected but stimulating teaming with veteran producer Rick Rubin (Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash and Dixie Chicks among many others).
 
This unprecedented partnership saw both Groban and Rubin stepping out of their respective zones to work together and create an entirely new zone of music where art meets intimacy and immediacy meets timelessness.  And, Groban was free to express himself at his fullest by tapping into a new range of expression and emotional connection with lyrics drawn straight from his heart. LIVE NATION Loses Barry Diller

MUSIC NEWS- Media mogul Barry Diller, the guy who claims credit for bringing together Live Nation and Ticketmaster, is to resign as chairman of the merged company after a corporate boardroom power struggle with John Malone,  another media giant and company director, as well as with Irv Azoff, according to a person with knowledge of the situation reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Diller announced the resignation at Tuesday's board meeting.  It will go into effect as of the next meeting, said the person, who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation.

KINGS OF LEON Announce Three USA Shows for November

MUSIC NEWS  - Kings of Leon have announced that they're squeezing in three USA shows this November. The performances, in the Northest, will be on in New York City,  New Jersey and Boston, and are the only stateside Kings of Leon dates of 2010 as they tour to support their fifth album, Come Around Sundown which releases October 19.  Tickets for the Garden show (produced by Live Nation) will go on general sale Saturday, October 2nd at 10am.  The Bowery Presents-produced NJ show also go on sale 10/2 at 10am the same time. Both shows cost $59.50.

The first single from the record, "Radioactive," is getting considerable airplay...  have you heard it?  Like it?

2011 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced - Alice Cooper, Beastie Boys, J Geils, Tom Waits and More

MUSIC NEWS - Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Beastie Boys and Bon Jovi are on the list of fifteen performers nominated on Tuesday for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.   Donovan, Dr. John, Chic, J. Geils Band, LL Cool J, Darlene Love, Joe Tex, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Tom Waits and Chuck Willis complete the list of nominees for this year.

Now the fun begins, as ballots will issued to 500+ voters in the music industry, who will select the final inductees.  That elite group will be named this December, with the induction ceremony to be held on March 14, 2011 at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.

ROD STEWART To Make Vegas Stand

MUSIC NEWS - ROD STEWART has announced eight nights in Las Vegas, NV at The Colosseum At Caesars Palace this November.  The shows are presented by AEG Live and Caesars, with Stewart planning greatest hits shows from a songbook of 50 years worth of material.

Stewart’s Colosseum run starts on November 6, with shows then on 11/7, 11/10, 11/14, 11/17 & 18 and 20 & 21. For years now, AEG Live has been wanting me to do a residency show in Vegas,” Stewart said. “I decided it was time to give it a try but I thought ‘first, let’s try two weeks instead of two years though.’

“Who knows what this could lead to? I know that my band, background singers and I are going to enjoy performing in such an intimate setting and having the chance for the fans to be in close proximity while hearing all the hits.”

James Vincent McMorrow (BellX1) New EP

MUSIC NEWS - James Vincent McMorrow has announced news of his self-titled EP to release digitally on October 5, 2010 via Vagrant Records.  It's four song collection, intended as a brief introduction to James' debut record Early In The Morning, which is due to release here in the states in January 2011.

The EP contains four songs, two of which are taken from the album, and two unearthed demos, and are laced with haunting  melodies, mythical storytelling, and musical structures that bring a singular and unique vision to the traditional folk that emerged in the states in the 1960's. Having self recorded, played, and released Early in the Morning in Ireland earlier this year, James and Vagrant have come together to disclose some of the most honest music the genre has seen in years.

BELLE and SEBASTIAN Return With "Write About Love"

MUSIC NEWS -  It's been five years of solo projects, soundtracks and more, but now Glasgow's Belle and Sebastian are about to return with a new album; Write About Love.  Said to marry the intimacy of their early works like If You're Feeling Sinister and Tigermilk with the production values of their more recent work, Write About Love we're told is a varied, captivating and occasionally disturbing trawl through the mind of Stuart Murdoch and his colleagues.

The album features duets with Norah Jones and actress Carey Mulligan (An Education) and, like their last album, was recorded with full orchestration with Tony Hoffer at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles, CA.  It'll release on October 12, 2010 via Matador Records and see them live on their upcoming tour.

REGIA SPEKTOR in NYC Tribute Concert for Daniel Cho

MUSIC NEWS- REGINA SPEKTOR will perform tonight in Brooklyn, NY at a special benefit concert for her former cello player Daniel Cho, who drowned over the summer.  She will honor the late cellist at Brooklyn's Music Hall Of Williamsburg, with all proceeds going to his family.  Ms Spektor will be joined by Jenny Owen Youngs and Cho's old rock band, Cooper, for the gig.

Sadly, the cello player drowned in Lake Geneva in Switzerland on July 6, one day before he scheduled to perform with Spektor at the Montreux Jazz Festival.   He also worked with Katy Perry and Coldplay and was a correspondent for ESPN Soccernet, covering South Korea's national team.

CUTE IS WHAT WE AIM FOR Announce October Shows

MUSIC NEWS - Indie pop-punkers Cute Is What We Aim For have announced plans for a short run of headline dates this October, including a CMJ show in NYC.  As support acts; Mercy Mercedes, Phone Calls From Home and Sunday Night Scene will appear too.  CIWWAF has been hard at work on their upcoming new album that's due out early 2011 and will take a break to hit the road, and hopefully test out new tunes.  Singer Shaant Hacikyan recently commented “Its great to get back on the road and try out some new songs.  We are really excited for these shows."

BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG To Make His Broadway Debut in American Idiot

MUSIC NEWS - The producers of the critically acclaimed AMERICAN IDIOT  Broadway show today announced that Green Day frontman and the musical’s composer & co-author Billie Joe Armstrong will be making his Broadway debut as “St. Jimmy” on Tuesday, September 28 and perform in the role through Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the St. James Theatre (246 West 44 St, NYC).  Immediately after this special engagement, Mr. Armstrong will join Green Day in Caracas, Venezuela on October 8, 2010 to kick off their South American Tour. 

 

Original Broadway cast member and current “St. Jimmy,” Tony Vincent, will resume performances on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 following a leave of absence due to a personal family matter.   Vincent’s understudies, Joshua Kobak and Andrew Call, will cover the role from Tuesday, October 5 thru Sunday, October 10, 2010.
