MUSIC NEWS- PAUL McCARTNEY will be presented with the 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honor by President Barack Obama this December. McCartney will receive the award because of his lifetime contribution to American culture. The award will be presented at a ceremony at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, DC on December 5 and have a number of special guests to honor Sir Paul. McCartney accepted an invitation to receive the honor in 2002 but withdrew due to family obligations.
Of the honor McCartney said: "President Kennedy was such an icon for us in the '60s and his presidency was so inspiring for so many people that it is a great pleasure for this kid from Liverpool to receive this honour." Other recent recipients have included Robert De Niro, Brian Wilson, Steven Spielberg and Bob Dylan.
A gala event and performance at the Kennedy Center is scheduled for December 5. The event will be broadcast on CBS-TV on December 28. Back in June, McCartney was awarded the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at The White House.
