Public Image Ltd Return to North America to Tour

MUSIC NEWS- PUBLIC IMAGE LTD have announced a much-anticipated North American headlining concert tour that will launch October 3 in Orlando, Fl before wrapping up on November 3.  Included will be an appearance at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX ( full itinerary below).  The tour is to  promote THIS IS PiL, their acclaimed first album of new music in 20 years that was released this past May via their own PiL Official label, with distribution through Redeye in the U.S. and Cargo in the U.K.  

Tickets for the PiL shows will go on sale August 3 and 4.

New Yorker Writer Resigns After Fabricated BOB DYLAN Quotes Are Revealed

MUSIC NEWS - Writer Jonah Lehrer has been dumped at The New Yorker after allegations that he made up Bob Dylan quotes in his article; “Imagine: How Creativity Works,” according to Poynter.  Back in June, it came out that Mr Lehrer had previously reused his own material in The New Yorker’s blog from material he published previously in The Wall Street Journal.  Poynter also noted that Lehrer’s resignation came a little less than an hour after the new charges against him became public.

Olympics Opening Ceremony Music Playlist

MUSIC NEWS - Back in June, the rumored 86-track Opening Ceremony playlist was leaked to the UK's The Telegraph, and it offered a wide swath of British music, from old classics, Beatles ("She Loves You") and The Rolling Stones ("Satisfaction") to more pop tunes Dizzee Rascal ("Bonkers"), Tinie Tempah ("Pass Out") and the Sugababes ("Push the Button").  The punk rock genre, developed in the  UK during the mid-1970s, gets an Olympic nod with samplings from the Sex Pistols ("God Save the Queen") and The Clash ("London Calling").

     Yellowcard’s humble beginnings as a group of friends from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida have made them into the group that they are today: a down-to-earth, music-loving group of guys who wake up every day to do the thing they love the most—make music.  

On Friday July 13^th at Warped Tour in Holmdel, NJ, I sat down with Sean Mackin, the violinist of Yellowcard.  Sitting backstage at the PNC Bank Arts Center, Sean gave me a glimpse into his life as a member of Yellowcard.

 

Composer HANS ZIMMER Releases "Aurora" For Colorado Shooting Victims

MUSIC NEWS -  “The Dark Knight Rises” composer Hans Zimmer has composed a song dedicated to the Aurora, Colo., shooting victims.

Zimmer posted the track “Aurora” on his Facebook page Friday. Zimmer said he recorded the song in London in the days after the theater shooting last week. All proceeds are being donated to a fund for victims of the shooting that killed 12 people.

Bruce Springsteen Adds Autumn Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have announced a new round of fall concert dates to their 2012 Wrecking Ball trek.  Sixteen addiitonal North American concert dates have been added, starting October 19 in Ottawa, Ontario and wrapping up in Glendale, AZ on December 6.

The Boss has been getting tremendous reviews for his current tour of Europe,  with nearly three-hour shows. Springsteen's European tour will wrap up this week. The first leg of his North American tour kicks off on August 14 and 15 with two shows at Boston's Fenway Park.  On this run of dates, Springsteen and company will mostly play baseball and football stadiums.

PATTERSON HOOD Announces Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS - Patterson Hood and the Downtown Rumblers announce a 19-date tour in support of Hood’s third solo record, Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance which will be released September 11^th on ATO Records.

The Downtown Rumblers are Hood, Jay Gonzalez on piano, Brad Morgan on drums and Jacob Morris on cello. Opening the shows will be Hope For Agoldensummer, also from Athens.

OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW On the Road for "Carry Me Back"

MUSIC NEWS - Old Crow Medicine Show released their fourth full-length studio album, Carry Me Back, on July 17, to much critical acclaim and to their highest chart position in their recording career.  The band just embarked on a tour in support of Carry Me Back, playing shows at capacity in many cities and will continue touring in the coming weeks, including a show this Saturday in Nashville with the reunited, original line-up of BR5-49 opening.

 

The Lumineers and The Milk Carton Kids will serve as openers for other tour dates.

 

Rock Radio is Back in NYC with 101.9

MUSIC NEWS- The former rock station (KROCK) that radio exec Randy Michaels took over last year to create New York's only all-news FM station has come full circle. Tuesday morning Merlin Media gave up on its FM News 101.9 experiment, and began (thankfully) airing alternative rock.

The station is now New Rock 101.9. A sister Merlin Media station, WIQI-FM in Chicago, also moved to rock from talk on Tuesday, ending Mr. Michaels' ambitions to create a network of news radio stations.

"Effective immediately, alternative is back on the air in New York as New Rock 101.9, and adult hits are on the air in Chicago as i101," Mr. Michaels said, in a statement. "It was a difficult decision to make, but after a year of minimal audience engagement, coupled with the format's inherent expense, I felt it was time to make a change."

The format change was accompanied by an unspecified number of layoffs of news-related personnel, according to two radio insiders familiar with the station.

Boys Like Girls Join All-American Rejects for Fall Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Pop-rockers BOYS LIKE GIRLS have announced they'll embark on a coast-to-coast co-headlining national tour with THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS.  The run kicks off September 13 in
Hampton Beach, NH and the tour; with support from The Ready Set and Parachute, will give BOYS LIKE GIRLS you the opportunity to hear new material from their full length album CRAZY WORLD, due out this fall via Columbia Records.  In the meantime,  three songs from the LP, "Be Your Everything," "Life Of The Party" and "The First Time" can be heard now as the CRAZY WORLD EP (purchase below).

 

The Wallflowers New "Reboot the Mission" - LISTEN

MUSIC NEWS - The Wallflowers' new single, "Reboot The Mission" is available to stream on RollingStone.com and a FREE mp3 download will be available tomorrow (7/24/12) at thewallflowers.com.

The first single off of the band's new album Glad All Over,which arrives October 2nd, is a Clash-inspired track that features the Clash's own Mick Jones on vocals and guitar.

SILVERSUN PICKUPS Back With "Neck of the Woods" Tour

MUSIC NEWS- The Silversun Pickups (lead vocals/guitar Brian Aubert, drums/percussion Christopher Guanlao, bassist/vocals Nikki Monninger and sounds/keyboards Joe Lester) will be heading back on the road for a fall headlining tour in support of their latest record Neck of the Woods. After several festival dates, the band will tour from the Malkin Bowl in Vancouver on September 4th to the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, IL on September 21st. Throughout the tour, they will be supported by School of Seven Bells and Atlas Genius.

 

Neck of the Woods was produced by the Grammy Award-winning Jacknife Lee (U2, Weezer, REM, Snow Patrol).   The Los Angeles Times praised Neck of the Woods, awarding it three out of four stars, noting "its allusions all nod to the best stuff from a time when rock acts could be experimental, heavy and platinum-selling at once." 

 

THE DUNWELLS Reveal "Blind Sighted Faith" and USA Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Blind Sighted Faith is the debut album by the rising British quintet The Dunwells, who have quickly made waves here in the USA with their stellar musicianship, classic roots songwriting and soaring harmonic vocals. Word-of-mouth on this band is spreading quickly, and their upcoming 40-city
national tour is certain to give them the acclaim and familiarity they rightfully deserve here in the states.

Recorded at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio outside of Austin, Blind Sighted Faith was produced with Grammy-winning producer and Roxy Music bassist John Porter (Bryan Ferry, The
Smiths, Ryan Adams) and is being released by Concord Records.  The band will hit the road to promote the release on an ambitious  tour mid-July through early October. Dates include LOLLAPALOOZA and the AUSTIN CITY LIMITS FESTIVAL

CALEXICO Readies "Algiers" Release, Announce Tour Plans

MUSIC NEWS - Calexico will hit the road this October for a month of concerts to promote their upcoming Anti- Records debut, 'Algiers,' out on September 11.  The dates kick off October 10 in Boston and conclude with a trio of homecoming shows in Arizona, with stops at NYC's Webster Hall on October 13 and LA's Fonda Theater on October 24 along the way, with The Dodos supporting.

'Algiers,' which core duo Joey Burns and John Convertino wrote and recorded in a converted church in the outskirts New Orleans neighborhood, for which the record is named, is the band's first album in four years. 

THE WHO Announce North American Tour

MUSIC NEWS - This week, The Who held a virtual press conference to announce that they will be back on the road for a special North American arena tour this fall.   "We've been trying to find something we can do together, Roger and I," 67-year-old Townshend said, seated beside Daltrey in London.

"Quadrophenia was something that we both felt we could get together on and
look at again. The last time we did it (on tour) was in 1997. We've been anxious
to work together before we drop dead."

On this run, the legendary rockers will play their classic 1973 double album Quadrophenia in full, along with a selection of fan favorites.

The initial 36-date series, the band's first North American tour in four years, starts up on November 1 in Sunrise, FL with a six-week run ending in Connecticut on December 9.  After a holiday break,  The Who will return to the states in late January with additional dates beginning on January 28 in Anaheim, CA concluding at the end of February in Rhode Island.
