MUSIC NEWS - Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc along with association with Higher Ground will present a special Newport Folk Festival kick-off concert featuring Wilco, Blitzen Trapper and Megafaun on Friday, July 27, at 5:00 pm at Fort Adams State Park, Harrison Avenue, in Newport, RI.
"We are excited to return to the tradition of presenting a Friday concert at the festival, and we anticipate a great turn out at Fort Adams," said Newport Folk Festival Producer Jay Sweet. "Because this event kicks off not just the sold out Newport Folk Festival, but also a busy weekend when people are traveling from work as well as to and from other summer entertainment events, we strongly urge early arrival, carpooling, biking and using water taxis whenever possible.
Limited edition keepsakes will be given to the first 1,000 attendees to enter the gates. The gates will open at 4:00 pm for the concert and the music starts at 5:00 pm, rain or shine. Seating for this event is general admission on the North Lawn. You should bring blankets or low-backed lawn chairs for seating. The Quad will not be open for this event. Food and beverages will be sold by vendors inside the festival grounds. Beer & wine will be available in the Food & Beverage Garden on the Pier from 4:00 pm - 8:30 pm. (Limited capacity).
Tickets, which are $45 in advance and $50 at the gate, are on sale now at the Newport Festivals Foundation Local Ticket and Information Office at 770 Aquidneck Avenue, in Middletown, RI. Office hours are Tuesday through Friday, Noon - 6:00 pm, and Saturday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. The office accepts cash, checks and all major credit cards. Tickets are also available at
