TORI AMOS Back With "Gold Dust"

MUSIC NEWS - Tori Amos re-imagines a personally handpicked collection of songs spanning her entire catalogue with her thirteenth studio album, Gold Dust.  The new set was produced by Amos with arrangements by long-time collaborator John Philip Shenale and features reworkings of songs in orchestral settings which Amos recorded with the renowned Metropole Orchestra, conducted by Jules Buckley.  Releasing on October 2, 2012, Gold Dust will be Amos’ second recording for Deutsche Grammophon and a natural progression following 2011’s classically influenced Night of Hunters. 

ROLLING STONES Rumored for Brooklyn, NY and London Concerts

MUSIC NEWS - The Rolling Stones are to perform four concerts this November, two at London's O2 Arena and two at the NBA's NETS new home, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY a source told music biz website, Billboard.biz.

Richard Branson and Australian promoter Paul Dainty will promote the shows, and the source says the Stones will be paid $25 million for the four appearances.  Earlier this year, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards said the Rolling Stones wouldn't go on tour in 2012 to celebrate the band's 50th golden anniversary. But back in July, Mr Richards dropped hints to the BBC about possible live shows.  "We're playing around with the idea and had a couple of rehearsals," he said. "We've got together, and it feels so good." The 68-year-old guitarist added: "There's things in the works; I think it's definitely happening. But when? I can't say yet."

The Wallflowers Sneak "Reboot the Mission" Video Performance

MUSIC NEWS - The Wallflowers recently taped an episode of Live from the Artists Den at San Francisco's Bimbo's 365 Club, and they've released a video of the band performing "Reboot The Mission," which is the first single off their new album Glad All Over, releasing October 2nd. DEFTONES Announce "Koi No Yokan" and Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Grammy-winning alternative rock band Deftones have announced the
November 13th release of their seventh studio album, entitled KOI NO YOKAN. To promote
the release they'll hit the road on a USA headlining tour, with special guest Scars On Broadway, which kicks off October 9 in Ventura, CA and wraps on the West Coast mid- November. Tickets go on sale next Friday, September 7 via Ticketmaster.com.

KOI NO YOKAN was recorded in Los Angeles, CA with Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, Rush) who also produced Diamond Eyes.  Front man Chino Moreno summed up Deftones' sound in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying "Obviously we're an aggressive band; not the heaviest, but there's a lot of attack.  He continued, "But there's also this lush beauty that flows within everything that we do, and that's my favorite part of the band. To me, it's the epitome of what the Deftones do."

New Album from Classic Southern Rockers, THE OUTLAWS

MUSIC NEWS - On September 11, Goldenlane Records (a subsidiary of Cleopatra Records) will
release a live album from the legendary Souther rockers, THE OUTLAWS called, OUTLAWS ANTHOLOGY: LIVE AND RARE (1973-1981).  This box set of live recordings and rate studio outtakes contains more than four hours of music from the definitive Southern Rock-Country.

Formed in Tampa Florida in the late sixties, Outlaws’ big signature sound became fully realized in the early 1970s and the band was the first signed to Arista Records by Clive
Davis. The self-titled1975 debut album from the "Florida guitar army" reached #13 on the Billboard album chart, and featured “There Goes Another Love Song” and their classic “Green Grass And High Tides.”   Their re-make of “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky” from GHOST RIDERS was a Top 40 hit single. 
 

DURAN DURAN Makes Last Minute Cancellation Due to Keyboardist's Health

MUSIC NEWS- DURAN DURAN keyboardist's Nick Rhodes illness forced a last-minute cancellation of the English pop rock group 's Saturday night concert at Atlantic City, NJ's  Revel Casino's 5,000-seat Ovation Hall.  The chart-topping 1980s English band has been touring for the last two years promoting their recent album "All You Need Is Now," and it seems like the work has taken its toll on Rhodes.

The casino, who got the news about the cancellation at 7 pm Saturday,  reported that Rhodes has been sick for a few says and saw a doctor Saturday who advised him not to perform Saturday night. In a news release, Rhodes said doctors told him he could be suffering from exhaustion.

The Revel staff said depending on the band's other commitments and Rhodes' condition,  the band is considering playing the show in the next few days and fans should hold onto their tickets and wait for an official announcement of a re-scheduled date.

"I have struggled through the last few nights, hoping that I could simply work through this," Rhodes said. "But today I felt so unwell, I had to see a doctor."  "We absolutely hate to disappoint our incredibly loyal fans and cancel a show at the last minute, but unfortunately the doctor has strongly recommended that this is what we do on this occasion. So it is with enormous regret that we are unable to perform in Atlantic City tonight," Rhodes said.

8/26/12 UPDATE-  Also cancelled are 8/26 in Pittsburgh, PA and 8/27 in Kettering, OH. Duran Duran’s next show is scheduled for August 29 in Highland Park, IL, at the Ravinia Festival at Ravinia Park

The Joy Formidable Teases Us With WOLF'S LAW Video

MUSIC NEWS - The Joy Formidable have spent the first half of 2012 gearing up for the release of their second album, 'Wolf's Law', due out in early 2013. As a small taste for fans of the new material, the band has released a new video for a track inspired by the album title. 'Wolf's Law'.  The tune won't be released on the album but is a perfect pointer for the band's second album, both musically and thematically. Check it out, below.

The Joy Formidable have always been intimately involved in all areas of their music, with Rhydian Daffyd designing the covers for their singles and their debut album, 'The Big Roar'. With the film for 'Wolf's Law' the band worked with director Cat Botibol to create a film that, in the words of Ritzy and Rhydian: 'captures the unforgiving momentum of life, the restlessness of nature's cycles and the parallels as well as the uniqueness of each creature's journey. Contrasting images of the forces of nature at its most violent and destructive with nature as creator, the film poses essential questions which have been at the forefront of our minds throughout the recording process of 'Wolf's Law'. Recording in Wales, London, upstate New York and downtown Manhattan presented us with the extremes of existence from rural solitude to some of the busiest and most developed urban environments on our planet and those contrasts and the thoughts they provoked very much filtered into the choice of images that comprise the film'.

WYE OAK's Jenn Wasner's New "Flock of Dimes"

MUSIC NEWS - On September 25, Merge records will release “Curtain” b/w “Apparition,” the second in a series of 7-inch singles from Flock of Dimes, the solo project of Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner. Limited to 1,000 copies, each 7-inch includes a download coupon for both tracks.

Jenn launched Flock of Dimes in 2011 as her way to explore more experimental recording and songwriting outside of the burgeoning success of Wye Oak.  A tour opening slot for Sharon Van Etten followed, and a debut 7-inch, “Prison Bride” b/w “I Can’t Tell You Why (screwed mix),” was released by Baltimore, MD based Friends Records in April of 2012. There are more singles in the works as part of this series, but a full-length release is not currently planned.

FREELANCE WHALES Ready "Diluvia" and Reveal SPITTING IMAGE- Listen

MUSIC NEWS - This morning, NPR's All Songs Considered unveiled the new single from Freelance Whales' Diluvia. The song, "Spitting Image" (listen below) will be available for download tomorrow on iTunes. The album is bundled with a limited-edition star projector custom-designed for Diluvia, and is also available in standard CD and vinyl formats.

After two years and over a dozen tours, Freelance Whales were feeling road-worn and eager to rediscover their creative process. They had been building on the grassroots appeal of their earthy debut, Weathervanes, for tens of thousands of miles. To tare the scale, the band embarked on a many faceted journey during which they found themselves isolated in West Kill, sprawled with their instruments in Hoboken, NJ and packed into studios in Brooklyn and Manhattan. What resulted from nearly a year’s worth of creative productivity is the group’s second full-length,  Diluvia (out October 9th on Mom+Pop/French Kiss).

HEARTLESS BASTARDS Announce Autumn Tour Plans

MUSIC NEWS - Partisan Records has announce that Heartless Bastards have confirmed a run of headlining tour dates in October and November, in addition to the previously announced August and September dates. The tour marks their first time back in several major cities including Chicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington since the album's release, culminating with a show in the band's hometown of Austin, TX with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. 

Since the February release of Arrow, Heartless Bastards have toured much of the USA, playing both club dates and festivals, including Hangout Music Festival, Pickathon Festival, and Wakarusa Music Festival. The band has played songs from the new record on Late Show with David Letterman and Conan, and the released received NPR's First Listen treatment upon its release.

Newport Folk Fest and Newport Jazz Fest 2013 Dates Announced

Music News - George Wein, Chairman of the Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc., has
announced the dates of the 2013 Folk and Jazz festivals in Newport, RI.  The 2013 Newport Folk Festival will be held July 27 & 28 and the Newport Jazz Festival presented by Natixis Global Asset Management is set for August 2 thru 4. Additional information will be announced in the coming months.

"Following this year's Folk Festival that sold out three months in advance and one of the best Jazz Festivals ever, we want to make sure that music fans have the 2013 dates now.
More than 40,000 people attended the two festivals, many from throughout the area and from around the world. Music lovers are already looking toward next year's concerts and it is helpful to give them the opportunity to schedule travel and lodging plans as early as possible," said Wein, who has produced the Jazz and Folk festivals since their inceptions in 1954 and 1959, respectively.

BLONDIE Adds Fall Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS - Classic new wave rockers, Blondie has announced a an additoinal run of select East Coast concert dates this Fall, which will immediately follow the band’s “Whip It To Shreds” co-headlining tour with Devo that kicks off September 7.  The just added “An Evening with Blondie” shows run from September 28^th to October 7 with a special bill of Blondie and Cheap Trick on September 30. Deep Purple´s Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi Reveal "WHOCARES" Release

MUSIC NEWS -Reuniting for the first time since their collaboration on Black Sabbath’s 1983 Born Again album, Deep Purple´s Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi took everybody by surprise in 2011 when they released the charity singles: “Out Of My Mind” and “Holy Water.” For the recording of these songs, the two heavy metal rock legends called a few friends, asking for some “help.”  Jason Newsted (Metallica), Jon Lord (Deep Purple, 1941-2012), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), and Linde Lindström (HIM) completed the supergroup WhoCares.

Now, “Out Of My Mind” and “Holy Water” will be featured in a special 2-disc set of rarities and recordings culled from the careers of  both Iommi and Gillan. The WhoCares double-CD will be released in North American on August 28. by Eagle Rock.  Among the tracks are the two original WhoCares songs, Deep Purple’s unreleased studio jam “Dick Pimple,” a song from Repo Depo (a band Ian Gillan formed before the Deep Purple reunion) which never released an official song before this CD. Also included is “Zero The Hero,” from the aforementioned Black Sabbath Born Again release (which is the only album to feature Gillan on lead vocals), as well as two unreleased songs from Tony Iommi featuring Glenn Hughes.

 

Journey's NEAL SCHON Announces "The Calling" Solo Album

MUSIC NEWS - Taking anther break from his full time job as lead guitarist for Journey, the multi-talented Neal Schon has put the finishing touches on his latest solo album, The Calling and reveals it'll be released by Frontiers Records on Tuesday October23 in the US. 

Produced by and featuring Schon on all guitars and bass, The Calling reunites Schon with former Journey bandmate, Steve Smith, who lends his drum talents to all 12 tracks on the new album.
