MUSIC NEWS - Gov’t Mule has premiered their brand new single “Funny Little Tragedy” today. Two tracks (above) are from the Mule’s highly anticipated double-disc album, Shout!, that's releasing on September 24 via Blue Note Records. The set will feature 11 new songs plus a bonus disc with an all-star lineup of vocalists interpreting The Mule’s new songs.
Special guests are: Elvis Costello, Grace Potter, Dr. John, Ben Harper, Toots Hibbert, Glenn Hughes, Jim James, Myles Kennedy, Dave Matthews, Vintage Trouble’s Ty Taylor and Steve Winwood.
In other news, Gov’t Mule will launch a video contest for fans in partnership with Genero.tv on July 31. You're invited to make your own video for either version of “Funny Little Tragedy.” First place prize is $4000.00 and will be the “official” video for the song. Second place prize is $1000.00 and it will be used as an alternate video. Entry deadline is September 10th, stay tuned to mule.net and Genero.tv for further instructions on July 31st! The band recently rocked the Gathering of the Vibes Festival this past weekend and is readying for a Fall tour which will include a very special pre-album release show is set for September 17th in New York City at Best Buy Theater.
The consummate live act, Gov’t Mule has released nine critically acclaimed studio albums, an assortment of DVDs and live albums and has sold more than three million song downloads through their site MuleTracks. Additionally, singer-guitarist/Gov’t Mule co-founder Haynes is currently wrapping up the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes, a groundbreaking orchestral adventure that was curated by the Garcia family and Haynes. The tour has paired Haynes with many of the country’s most respected symphonies for performances of the music icon’s storied original compositions as well as classic interpretations of timeless standards that were hallmarks of Garcia and the Grateful Dead's shows.
This week the tour stops in San Francisco for two nights, coinciding with what would have been Garcia’s 71st birthday on August 1. In August and September, Haynes will be touring with the Allman Brothers Band, which he has been a member of since 1989.
