MUSIC NEWS - With a wildfire that contines to grow near Yosemite National Park, news is out that the Strawberry Music Festival, held in nearby Groveland, CA has been cancelled. The festival has released an announcement indicating the Labor Day event can’t be held on the site as planned.
The fall edition of Strawberry Festival, which is also held over Memorial Day weekend, was scheduled for August 29 through September 2 at Camp Mather, west of Yosemite National Park. The lineup was to feature The Mavericks, Patty Griffin, The Del McCoury Band and more.
The blaze has already destroyed two homes and seven outbuildings, closed down a 4-mile stretch of state route 120. Although festival organizers sent out an email on Thursday; “Official Post – Strawberry Fall 2013 Music Festival Canceled,” Strawberry hadn’t yet specifically used the word “canceled” in the August 22 postings on its website, Facebook page and Twitter.
Here’s the statement from the Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency and the Board of Supervisors:
“Due to the ongoing State of Emergency and the potential adverse effects of the wildfire on public health, safety and welfare, the County of Tuolumne cannot allow the Strawberry Music Festival to occur at the site as originally permitted on the dates of August 29 through September 2, 2013.”
Organizers were not available for further comment.
