SWITCHFOOT Announces Autumn Tour Plans

MUSIC NEWS - SWITCHFOOT released their autumn tour plans this week, with news that The Almost will join them.  The run starts up on October 1st in Lynchberg, VA with pre-sale tickets available through Friends of the Foot beginning Wednesday, September 1st. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, September 2nd.  More @ switchfoot.com.   

The band, which just wrapped up a summer outing with Goo Goo Dolls, will also perform at Celebrate
Freedom Atlanta, the largest free one-day concert in Atlanta, on September 4th, and the Austin City Limits Festival on October 10th. (See below for itinerary.)

LIFEHOUSE Announce Headlining Fall Tour

MUSIC NEWS - After their recent spring tour with Daughtry, L.A. alt rockers,  Lifehouse is now gearing up to embark on a fall headlining tour that will kick off on October 15th in Mashantucket, CT (full tour itinerary below) and features Kris Allen as support act.  And before that, in September they head to Europe, with gigs booked in the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Following the success of "Halfway Gone," the band's second single from Smoke & Mirrors, their new All Intune is already  getting traction on radio.

MICHAEL BEEN of The Call, Dead at 60

MUSIC NEWS-  Michael Been, 60, the leader, vocalist and guitarist of the 1980's alt-rockers,  The Call, as well as father of bassist Robert Been of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the sound engineer for BRMC, passed away on Thursday after suffering a heart attack backstage at one of BRMC concerts.

Michael was the sound engineer and mentor for BRMC was backstage at Pukkelpop Music Fest in Belgium and suffered a medical incident. “The first aid was immediately administered by the workers of the Flemish Cross and the doctors present backstage.” says festival organizer Chokri Mahassine. “The Medical Emergency Team was immediately on the spot.” He was rushed to the Salvator Hasselt hospital where he later died.

East Coasters: Spill Canvas Rejoin Goo Goo Dolls Tour

MUSIC NEWS- South Dakota alt rockers, The Spill Canvas will rejoin the Goo Goo Dolls in October for another month of concert dates, this time in the eastern US (full itinerary below). The guys posted the following on their website:

LINKIN PARK's New "The Catalyst" Tune and "featuring YOU contest winner"

MUSIC NEWS- LINKIN PARK revealed their new single "The Catalyst" this week.  The tune (listen thru link below) is off their upcoming album A Thousand Suns, scheduled for release on September 14th. Vocalist Mike Shinoda has emphasized how the new album is to be a "journey" in which listening to it in full will provide the best possible experience.

The band also announced this week that the winner of the "Linkin Park, featuring YOU" contest on MySpace is NoBrain, an English teacher from Swidnica, Poland. Prior to the release of "The Catalyst," the band released stems from the song which fans could download, and create their own version of the song. The band members listened to thousands of entries, and selected NoBrain's, which will be featured on Linkin Park's new album.

KINGS OF LEON Will "Come Around Sundown" This October- New Album News!

MUSIC NEWS - Nashville area rockers, The Kings of Leon have announced plans to release their highly nticipated follow up to their "Only By The Night" album.  The word out today is that their fifth album, called "Come Around Sundown" will be out on October 19 on RCA Records, nearly two years after they gave us their breakthrough record.

With strong hits like "Sex On Fire" and "Use Somebody," "Only By The Night" has gone to sell more than 1.2 million albums in the USA, says Nielsen SoundScan.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Release More Tour Details

MUSIC NEWS - Stone Temple Pilots have confirmed details of added dates on their tour of North America.
The 37-date run by the American alt rockers starts up in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 7, including a stop by Scott Weilland and company at the Surgis Rock n Rev festival in South Dakota, and as of now, wraps up in Pensacola, Florida on October 16.  

STP's on tour to promote their 2010 release, Stone Temple Pilots, entitled album (out via Atlantic Records).

More Pixies DOOLITTLE Tour Dates !!!

MUSIC NEWS- Now with sold out shows in Austin, Tulsa, Kansas City and Nashville, the Pixies today announced they're adding more shows to their 2010 U.S. "Doolittle Tour."  A second show in Nashville on September 11 at the Ryman, a second Austin show confirmed for September 21, as well as dates in Charlotte, NC (September 9) and Asheville, NC (September 12), are now on the "Doolittle Tour" itinerary (see below for details).

The 2010 U.S. "Doolittle Tour" extends the 20th anniversary celebration of the release of the band's classic 1989 album, Doolittle, as the Pixies; Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering - will perform the album from beginning to end, and its related B-sides:  "Weird at My School," "Dancing the Mantra Ray," and "Bailey's Walk," among them.

MADINA LAKE Bassist, Matthew Leone, Hospitalized

MUSIC NEWS - Madina Lake's bassist, Matthew Leone, is in a Chicago hospital afer being severely beaten in the Chicago neighborhood of West Town.  Apparently, Leone came to the aid of a woman who was being assaulted by her husband on a local street early Tuesday morning, according to the local news site, Chicago Breaking News.

“Matthew saw something he didn’t like to see and tried to step in and the guy turned on him instead, but then the two of them (the couple) walked off together like nothing happened,” said an unnamed police officer, according to the website. Lead singer in the band, Nathan Leone, and Matthew’s twin brother, said he was due to meet up with his brother at a local bar, and as he arrived he saw his brother trying to stop the husband from hitting the woman.

WAVVES Move Up Their KING OF THE BEACH Release !

In the life of Nathan Williams, the year of 2009 will go down as both a highlight reel and a total shit show. Meteorically, feverishly and somewhat improbably, two albums worth of naïve punk rock that he recorded behind his parents' San Diego home as Wavves became a sensation in the indie music world.  So, of course, passports got filled, capers got pulled off and lots of good things were said about the music in both print and digital world, along with actual human voices. At the same time, fights were fought, situations got hairy and people got indignant and mean. Oh well. That's life.

JANE'S ADDICTION Announce Rich Costey to Produce New Album

 MUSIC NEWS- JANE’S ADDICTION; singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Duff McKagan, have signed on Rich Costey to produce their next album, tentatively due out winter 2011 via Capitol Records.  Costey’s rich, extensive experience in the studio includes album production for Muse and Franz Ferdinand and he's got studio credits for engineering, programming and mixing for Weezer, Rage Against The Machine, My Chemical Romance, Doves and Jurassic 5, among others.

JA, who wrote the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience,  is now in Los Angeles working on the album having returned from overseas concerts at the Gelredome in The Netherlands June 9 (with Rage Against the Machine and Gogol Bordello) and Rock In Rio in Madrid, Spain June 11 (with Rage Against the Machine and Cypress Hill).

The STONE FOXES Cancel Remaining June Gigs

MUSIC NEWS- Due to an emergency appendectomy of one of THE STONE FOXES members, the alt rock band is forced to cancel all of their June 2010 performances.

The concerts impacted were to be held at San Diego Oysterfest, Lucky’s Club Cigar store in Eugene,  Seattle shows at the Rock n’ Roll Seattle Marathon and The Showbox SoDo Lounge, as well as Dante’s in Portland.

The band issued the following statement;

"We are expecting a full and speedy recovery and hope to reschedule all of the cancelled dates at the next possible opportunity. We are  sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued support”.  “Our album release show is still scheduled for July 17th at Café du Nord in San Francisco, CA.  Thanks again for your understanding, we’ll see you back out on the road soon.”

Guitarist / Producer DANIEL LANOIS in Critical Condition After Motorcycle Accident

MUSIC NEWS -  Singer/songwriter, guitarist and highly regarded producer DANIEL LANOIS has been forced to cancel his appearances of DANIEL LANOIS' BLACK DUB, (Lanois, singer/songwriter Trixie Whitley and jazz drummer Brian Blade) after sustaining serious injuries on Saturday (June 5) in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles. 

Lanois, 58, was hospitalized with “multiple injuries” as a result of the crash, according to a press release.  Fortunately, the musician and producer (Peter Gabriel, U2, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson) “is expected to be released from intensive care soon.”  “Due to the severity of the injuries, Lanois … will be recuperating for the next two months.”

SMASHING PUMPKINS Announce Small Venue USA Tour

MUSIC NEWS - The SMASHING PUMPKINS have announced a 14-show run of intimate venues starting July 6 in Cleveland and ending in Memphis, TN on July 24.  This will mark the band’s first tour since December 2008 and will feature, says leader and founder BILLY CORGAN, “a balance of classics, a few obscure ones, and new ‘Teargarden’ material.”   CORGAN and his band mates; guitarist JEFF SCHROEDER, drummer MIKE BYRNE and new bassist NICOLE FIORENTINO, are planning to invite select fans to attend their sound checks (details TBA). “We are  going to do something unique, which is play an invite-only set during sound check of almost all new, unreleased songs,” says Billy. “We're still figuring out a way to make it possible for some of the fans who'll be in the line outside waiting to get in for that.”

Rehearsals for the tour “have been fantastic,” adds Billy. “I haven't been this comfortable in a band situation since about 1995. Musically, we seem to have wound our way back to a more kinetic, electric, and psychedelic sound that reminds me of SP in Gish-Siamese era.”  

The PIXIES Plan USA Doolittle Tour Return

MUSIC NEWS-  The Pixies have announced plans to bring The Doolittle Tour back to the USA after a run of nearly 40 sold out shows on three continents since the Fall of 2009   The 11-city run kicks off on September 7 at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia, PA and will extend the 20th anniversary celebration of the release of the band's classic 1989 album, Doolittle.  All of theconcerts will be recorded and the CDs will be made available immediately after every show at the band's merchandise booth; all live CDs can also be ordered at doolittlelive.com.  Fuck Buttons, the two-piece electronic pop group from Bristol, England, will open all shows.
