Jackson Browne Takes a "Sick Day", Cancels in Buffalo

MUSIC NEWS - Due to an unspecified illness and under doctor's orders, Jackson Browne has announced that he is unable to perform his show in Buffalo, NY at the Shea Performing Arts Center on August 30, 2010.  His management and promoter are working on re-scheduling, new date currently tbd.

For now his tour (with David Lindley) resumes on September 1, 2010 in Scranton, PA at the Toyota Pavillion.  Refunds for the Shea show are available at point of purchase.

SPRINGSTEEN's "Darkness on the Edge of Town" Re-Issue Announced

MUSIC NEWS- Columbia Records has announced plans to re-issue Bruce Springsteen’s fourth album with previously-unreleased audio and video footage on November16, 2010.   Called, The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story, the audio portion will include his Darkness On The Edge Of Town remastered for the first time and some 21 previously-unheard tracks from the Darkness... recording sessions.  The video, available on dvd or blu ray, portion will feature a new 90 minute documentary film called,  The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, with more than four hours of live concert footage from 1976 thru 1978 and a 2009 performance of Darkness… in its entirety.

And, the set will also include an 80-page notebook with of reproductions of The Boss’s original notebooks from the recording sessions, never-before-seen photographs and a new Springsteen-penned essay.

ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Add Dates to Fall Tour

MUSIC NEWS -  Southern rock legends, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND have added cities to their Fall 2010 tour itinerary, after having sold out a just-announced Philadelphia, PA show and three Boston concerts.  The new concerts include eight shows beginning November 11 and their first-ever performance at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC.  The Philadelphia concert will mark the band’s first shows since GREGG ALLMAN’s successful liver transplant in June 2010.

RON WOOD's New "I Feel Like Playing" Out in September

MUSIC NEWS- Rolling Stone RON WOOD's new studio album, I FEEL LIKE PLAYING is now set with a September 28 (9/27 in the UK) release on Eagle Records. The album marks his seventh solo effort, and is his first since 2001’s ‘Not for Beginners'. Wood recently said of the plan; "Eagle understood exactly what I needed for my album and they will give it the push that it deserves, both in the U.K. and internationally."

The new album has twelve tracks with an amazing list of special guests that includes -  Slash, Flea, Billy Gibbons, Kris Kristofferson, Bobby Womack, Eddie Vedder, Bernard Fowler, Daryl Jones, Jim Keltner and Faces cohort Ian McLagan.

SONGS OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD Release, From Jesse McReynolds

MUSIC NEWS- One of our country's greatest music legends, mandolin innovator and stylist Jesse McReynolds announced plans to release Songs Of The Grateful Dead (via Woodstock Records) on October 5, 2010.  Jesse is best known for his singing, arranging, songwriting and musical wizardry and has been a Grand Ole Opry member for more than 45 years and is a multiple Grammy nominee and winner.

Jesse McReynolds & his brother Jim (Jim & Jesse) have numerous honors including being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame's "Walkway of Stars", the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame, the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Honor, and Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Hall of Fame.  Jesse has now taken one more musical step by recording the repertoire of one of the greatest bands, The Grateful Dead.

DAVID BOWIE Says NO Lady Gaga Collaberation In the Works

MUSIC NEWS- You've heard the rumors, David Bowie and Lady Gaga are teaming up to work on the pop star's upcoming album. Well, Bowie has said there is NO truth to the suggested collaberation through a statement on his official website, saying; "The suggestion that David Bowie is producing and participating in the production of Lady Gaga's next album is untrue and a hoax."

The rumors of the Bowie/Gaga work gained traction a few days back, on August 12,   after a scanned document showed up a Gaga Daily message board thread that seemed tolist the titles of several songs recorded for Gaga's new album; including "You and I," "Born This Way" and "Hooker on a Church Corner", as well as in-studio collaborators. On the document, Bowie is listed as a co-producer, guitarist and vocalist.

JASON BONHAM's Led Zeppelin Experience Launching October with North American Shows

MUSIC NEWS - JASON BONHAM’S LED ZEPPELIN EXPERIENCE will be celebrating the life and music of his father; the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham this fall.  A limited concert tour, timed to commenorate the30th anniversary of his Dad’s passing on September 25th, 1980, will kick off in North America on October 8, 2010 in British Columbia. ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA To Release "The Early Years" DVD

MUSIC NEWS- Wow! 40 years of ELO, and to commemorate the anniversary,  Electric Light Orchestra has announced the release of Electric Light Orchestra Live: The Early Years DVD on August 24 (via Eagle Rock Entertainment). Their union of orchestral harmonies with rock n' roll's electricity led to global album sales in excess of 50 million, and made ELO into one of the biggest selling bands of the seventies and eighties.

ELO was formed in 1970 by Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood from the ashes of their band The Move. Wood moved on shortly after, and Lynne led the band to international acclaim. A triple concert trip down memory lane, Electric Live Orchestra Live: The Early Years pulls excerpts from three 70s' performances. Filmed in 1973, the first concert is from the UK's Brunel University; the second is a six-track culmination from German TV's Rockpalast in 1974. Finally, ELO rocks through 12 songs at the Fusion concert from the New Victoria Theatre in London, as part of the "Face the Music" tour. As a bonus, fans are treated to a vintage band interview from Rockpalast.

Richie Hayward, LITTLE FEAT Drummer, Passes Away

MUSIC NEWS - Richie Hayward, 64, the original drummer for Little Feat, died onThursday after a long battlecancer.   Before the Feat, Hayward worked with The Family Of Man and The Factory, which is where he met future Little Feat frontman Lowell George (dead since 1979). The two joined up with Bill Payne and Roy Estrada and formed the original Little Feat in 1969.

FARM AID 25 Reveals Expanded Line Up

MUSIC NEWS - Farm Aid organizers today announced more performers for its 25th anniversary music and food festival being held on Saturday, October 2, at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Kenny Chesney, Norah Jones, Jason Mraz, Jeff Tweedy, Band of Horses, The BoDeans, Amos Lee and Robert Francis will join Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews at Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America. The festival will also be broadcast live on DirecTV.  

VAN HALEN Back After a Decade with New Album?

MUSIC NEWS- Reports are that Van Halen are working on a new album, their first in over a decade, and the plans include David Lee Roth. Twenty-six years after they last recorded together, the hard-rockers are reuinted with their original singer, with an album planned for 2011.

No official announcement from the band yet, but their publishing company slipped it out in a recent press release. Warner/Chappell Music's statement simply noted that the firm was renewing their publishing deal with Eddie and Alex Van Halen.  The cool part was at the end of the release, confirming rumors that have been circulating for months: "The group is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011."

JOHN MELLENCAMP To Make "No Better Than This" Tour

MUSIC NEWS- John Mellencamp and his band have announced plans for the first leg of the No Better Than This Tour in late  October after the August 17 release of his new album, No Better Than This (his debut on Rounder Records).  The tour, designed as a uniquely formatted  “evening with,” brings Mellencamp’s music to theater-sized venues, a  rare opportunity to experience one of America’s most iconic songwriters and performers in an intimate setting, highlighting all phases of his artistry.

The tour (itinerary below) is expected to continue through the spring of 2011, will start up on October 29th in Bloomington, IN, where Mellencamp and his family reside. It will run for four weeks and bring  Mellencamp, his band and music to audiences in Nashville, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh and three additional Indiana markets of South Bend, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis (add'l tour dates pending).
