Bonnaroo 2012 Confirms Initial Line Up

MUSIC NEWS- Superfly Presents and A.C. Entertainment are excited to announce the initial lineup for the 2012 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The 11th annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 7 thru 10 on the same 700-acre farm in Manchester, TN, 60 miles south of Nashville.

A full list of confirmed acts follows, and more will be announced in the coming weeks. The final Bonnaroo 2012 lineup will total over 125 bands and over 20 comedians performing on 13 stages over four days. Tickets for the event will go on sale on this Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 12 noon EST exclusively at bonnaroo.com.

Peter Frampton's Long Lost Guitar Returns to the Concert Stage

MUSIC NEWS- This week, on February 18 at NYC's Beacon Theater, Grammy winning guitarist Peter Frampton will play his restored 1954 Gibson Les Paul for the first time.  The long-lost guitar, now dubbed The Lady Pheonix,  was recently discovered on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao after its disappearance in a plane crash 32 years ago. Frampton was reunited with the guitar in an emotional meeting in Nashville this past December. Now, with the help of the Gibson Guitar’s Custom Shop, Frampton will debut the recovered guitar during his NYC concert on his world tour celebrating the 35^th anniversary of multi-platinum selling live album Frampton Comes Alive!.

WANEE 2012 Fest Announced with ALLMAN BROS and FURTHER Headlining

MUSIC NEWS - The Allman Brothers Band are back for Wanee 2012 as they headlines a great line-up of outstanding performers for what is becoming one of the most popular music festivals in the country. This year's Wanee Music Festival will run Thursday April 19 through Saturday April 21  at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL. ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Announce 2012 Beacon Theater NYC Run

MUSIC NEWS - Rock legends the Allman Brothers Band has confirmed their annual residency at New York City's Beacon Theater.  For 2012 the group will perform ten shows (so far) in March. The band confirmed the Beacon dates are March 9, 10, 13, 14, 16, 17, 20, 21, 24 & 25 with potentila for additional dates to be added.

Tickets for the shows will go on sale Friday, January 6, 2012 (earlier for club members). The Brothers returned to the Beacon in 2011 after a year uptown at New York’s United Palace Theatre due to Beacon scheduled conflicts with a CIrque De Soleil show.

U2 Tops 2011 Concert Tour List With $231.9M in Sales Worldwide

MUSIC NEWS- Irish rockers, U2 are #1 for concert touring this year! The band won the honor with their highest-grossing tour both in North America and around the globe in 2011.   The band grossed $156M in USA/Canada from over 1.7 million tickets sold, according to the music site Pollstar. The group grossed $231.9M worldwide on 2.39 million tickets sold.

In the top five highest-grossing touring acts in North America were Taylor Swift ($97.7M), Kenny Chesney ($84.6M), Lady Gaga ($63.7M) and at #5, NJ's Bon Jovi ($57.1M).   For the worldwide top five, U2 were followed by the reunited Take That ($224M), Bon Jovi ($148.8M), Ms Swift ($104.2M) and former Pink Floyd man Roger Waters ($103.6M) . Tickets on U2's 360 Degrees tour sold for an average price of $97.15 worldwide and $91.67 in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

LEMONHEADS Add Fifty Dates to USA Tour

MUSIC NEWS - THE LEMONHEADS have announced an additional fifty USA tour dates for early 2012. The Evan Dando-led three piece will be performing their classic 1992 album, IT’S A SHAME ABOUT RAY, from start to finish. Joining Dando on this tour will be guitarist Josh Lattanzi (The Candles) and drummer Brian Nolan (American Hi-Fi). 

It’s A Shame About Ray was released in 1992 and was The Lemonheads’ second release for Atlantic Records. The album featured the trio of Evan Dando (guitar, vocals), David Ryan (drums) and Juliana Hatfield (bass, backing vocals) as they breezed through twelve songs in just under 30 minutes, including the title track, “My Drug Buddy,” “The Turnpike Down” and the cultural touchstone, “Alison’s Starting To Happen.”

The Bridge School Benefit Concerts on CD / DVD, Special Theatrical Screening

MUSIC NEWS - Reprise Records has announced plans to release The Bridge School Benefit Concerts 25^th Anniversary Edition  on October 24, 2011.  The release will a three-DVD set and a two-CD collection that will feature unique live performances from many of the artists who've performed over the past twenty five years at the annual Bridge School Benefit concerts that are organized by Neil Young and his wife Pegi Young.

To celebrate the release, the concert film from the DVDs will screen in theaters in select cities for one night only on the same day, October 24. Theater listings below.

 

John Wesley Harding Premiers "Sing Your Own Song" Video

MUSIC NEWS- Singer-songwriter John Wesley Harding has today premiered his new video for “Sing Your Own Song,” and it features comedian Eugene Mirman.  The song is from his new record The Sound of His Own Voice out now via Yep Roc Records.  The thirteen song set features backing from the all-star King Charles Trio, whose lineup includes John Moen, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee-Drizos and Nate Query, all members of The Decemberists, Peter Buck of R.E.M. and Scott McCaughey (Thee Minus Five, The Baseball Project), along with guest vocals from Rosanne Cash, Laura Veirs and John Roderick (The Long Winters). Recorded at the Type Foundry in Portland, OR, The Sound of His Own Voice was produced by Harding and McCaughey and mixed by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, Spoon). The album also features artwork by acclaimed photographer Jamie Baldridge.

BJORK's New Album Has Icelandic Air Premiere

MUSIC NEWS- Bjork’s new album Biophilia, her eighth, releases this week on the One Little Indian label, had its premiere over the weekend on the in-flight entertainment system on Icelandair flights.  Th Icelandair director of marketing and business development Gudmundur Oskarsson said the company has it as a priority to support local musicians “in whatever way we can”, with the company premiering Arabian Horse, the latest album from fellow Icelandic act Gus Gus, earlier this year. “Bjork is one of the foremost artists in the world right now and many people have been waiting in anticipation to listen to this album,” Oskarsson furthered.

Mick Jagger Says Stones Have No Plans For UK Olympics Opening Ceremony

MUSIC NEWS - Mick Jagger has said the Rolling Stones have no plans to perform at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Summer Olympics. He recently said the band have not been officially asked to appear at the event and, if they did they were, the group woul say no.

In an interview with the BBC, Jagger commented; ''Bryan Adams said, 'Whatever you do, don't do any Olympic openings', after he did the opening of the winter games in Canada.'' He said; "It was so cold, and he had to wear this bizarre suit. That's not going to happen here - it would just rain."

The rocker also criticized the 2008 games in Beijing: ''It wasn't a brilliant piece of theatre when they left the stadium with a London bus with Jimmy Page on it. I don't want to be on that bus when it arrives in London." There's been continued rumors that the group were planning a special tour for their 50th anniversary next year.

Dave Matthews Band Caravan Hits NYC This Weekend

 UPDATE 8/25/11- Due to Hurricane Irene, ticket holders for Saturday and Sunday are invited to attend the Friday event at Governors Island. The Governor of New York has issued a state of emergency, therefore the DMB Caravan events on Saturday, August 27th and Sunday, August 28th have been postponed. Organizers will announce the new Caravan Governors Island dates as soon as they have been confirmed.

MUSIC NEWS - The “Dave Matthews Band Caravan” is coming to New York City’s Governors Island this weekend, August 26, 27 & 28 and MNN has the final line-up and set times (below). The traveling festival will feature performances by 18 artists, including a full set by headliners Dave Matthews Band each night and an acoustic performance by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds on Sunday, August 28.

Governors Island will be the third stop for “Dave Matthews Band Caravan,” which has already visited Atlantic City, NJ’s Bader Field and Chicago’s Lakeside.  Located in the heart of New York Harbor, you can reach Governors Island via free concert ferries that will begin running at 1 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 12:30 pm on Sunday from Battery Park in Lower Manhattan and Liberty Harbor Marina in Jersey City, NJ. LYNYRD SKYNYRD Cancels Shows Due to Johnny VanZant Health Issue

MUSIC NEWS - Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Johnny Van Zant's health problems have forced the group to cancel several concert appearnaces. A post on the band's website explains that the 51 year old singer was hospitalized last weekend as a result from complications from a previous surgery. The site reports;

“Johnny Van Zant was admitted to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN on August 6, with a surgical site infected cellulitis which required hospitalization with IV antibiotic treatment. Van Zant has a severe Staph infection and multiple symptoms related to infection. Johnny Van Zant is to remain out of work and recover until cleared by his primary physician.”

So far, the affected tour dates are limited, and are listed below. Lynyrd Skynyrd plans to resume their tour schedule with the Doobie Brothers on Friday, August 19, in Bethel, NY at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.

NEON TREES Joins Duran Duran Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Neon Trees has today announced that they will be supporting legendary British pop masters Duran Duran on their upcoming North American fall tour. The tour, which take them from coast to coast, begins in Everett, WA on September 23. With the band's ferocious live energy that has wowed audiences around the world, Neon Trees is certainly a perfect complement for Duran Duran’s pop excellence. Full itinerary is below.

Illness Forces GREGG ALLMAN To Cancel Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS - More health problems force southern rocker GREGG ALLMAN to cancel his North American concerts dates through September.  His ailment is again the upper respiratory infection that resulted in him canceling a June shows on his European tour.  Back then his doctors believed a few days of rest would take care of the problem.   We guessthe bug was stronger than anyone thought, doctors have ordered him this time to rest for four to six weeks.

KINGS OF LEON Cancel Remaining USA Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS- TN rockers Kings of Leon have canceled the remainder of their USA tour, citing health problems with frontman Caleb Followill.  This follows his abrupt departure from the stage in Dallas, TX saing he was unable to sing.   Followill, the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning band ", is reportedly "suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion," a band spokesman said.

"The band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break," the spokesperson said.
