SPRINGSTEEN's "Darkness on the Edge of Town" Re-Issue Announced

MUSIC NEWS- Columbia Records has announced plans to re-issue Bruce Springsteen’s fourth album with previously-unreleased audio and video footage on November16, 2010.   Called, The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story, the audio portion will include his Darkness On The Edge Of Town remastered for the first time and some 21 previously-unheard tracks from the Darkness... recording sessions.  The video, available on dvd or blu ray, portion will feature a new 90 minute documentary film called,  The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, with more than four hours of live concert footage from 1976 thru 1978 and a 2009 performance of Darkness… in its entirety.

And, the set will also include an 80-page notebook with of reproductions of The Boss’s original notebooks from the recording sessions, never-before-seen photographs and a new Springsteen-penned essay.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA To Release "The Early Years" DVD

MUSIC NEWS- Wow! 40 years of ELO, and to commemorate the anniversary,  Electric Light Orchestra has announced the release of Electric Light Orchestra Live: The Early Years DVD on August 24 (via Eagle Rock Entertainment). Their union of orchestral harmonies with rock n' roll's electricity led to global album sales in excess of 50 million, and made ELO into one of the biggest selling bands of the seventies and eighties.

ELO was formed in 1970 by Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood from the ashes of their band The Move. Wood moved on shortly after, and Lynne led the band to international acclaim. A triple concert trip down memory lane, Electric Live Orchestra Live: The Early Years pulls excerpts from three 70s' performances. Filmed in 1973, the first concert is from the UK's Brunel University; the second is a six-track culmination from German TV's Rockpalast in 1974. Finally, ELO rocks through 12 songs at the Fusion concert from the New Victoria Theatre in London, as part of the "Face the Music" tour. As a bonus, fans are treated to a vintage band interview from Rockpalast.

THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT to Release Disney Concert Show on DVD

MUSIC NEWS- The Airborne Toxic Event are prepping to release a documentary film about last year's sold-out performance at the world renowned Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles that featured an eclectic mix of musicians and performers-ranging from a children's choir, a world-class string quartet, a high school marching band, horn players, visual artists, and Mexican folkórico dancers. The dvd will be available in the US on September 7th and will be entitled All I Ever Wanted: Live From the Walt Disney Concert Hall and will give us an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the extensive rehearsals and preparation that went into putting on the show at the Frank Gehry designed venue, home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Watch the trailer for "All I Ever Wanted...", below.

All I Ever Wanted: Live From the Walt Disney Concert Hall will have its Euro premiere at the prestigious Raindance Film Festival in London. Raindance is the largest independent film festival in the UK, and has premiered classics like "Pulp Fiction," "The Blair Witch Project"and "Memento." Previous jury members have included Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Tom Wait, Mick Jones, Dame Judi Dench, photographer/filmmaker Anton Corbijn and filmmakerJonathan Caouette.  Raindance will host the European premiere of the film on September 30th in London (no word on

Emerson, Lake & Palmer "Pictures..." Film Gets 40th Anniv DVD Release

MUSIC NEWS- The classic ELP Pictures at an Exhibition film gets an update and makes it on dvd this July 27 (just days after their UK High Voltage Fest reunion) via Eagle Rock Entertainment with the release of Emerson, Lake & Palmer¹s Pictures At An Exhibition: Special Edition DVD (no word on a Blu ray version). The concert film, which had been out on  VHS and DVD will get a special 40-year anniversary package for this version.

Originally released in theatres back in 1973, Pictures At An Exhibition captures the English prog rock power trio performing at the Lyceum in London in December of 1970. Filmed at the height of their popularity, this concert film is a snapshot in time, blending thepassion and integrity of the music along with seventies psychedelic special effects.

Rolling Stones News; Stones In Exile on Video

MUSIC NEWS - Eagle Vision reminds us that they've released Stones In Exile, a hour long documentary look at the recording of what many rock historians call the greatest album in history: 1972's Exile on Main Street , on dvd.  The release also includes 90 minutes of additional, behind-the-scenes bonus footage.

There's over the years, a mountain of debate, conjecture, written words and mythologizing about this classic Stones album (recently re-released, btw).  The subject of books, of rumors, of innuendo, of stories that have only added to the Stones' legend. Now, you can take a step back in time to the spring of 1971 and enter the villa called Nellcote at Villefranche-sur-Mer in the South of France where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor created and recorded this most classic of albums in the most chaotic of circumstances.

ROLLING STONES, New Footage of "All Down the Line" and "Exile..." Re-Release and Documentary News

MUSIC NEWS- Fresh from the NYC screening of the Stones in Exile documentary film at MOMA last night, The Rolling Stones have released exclusive live video footage of their performance of "All Down The Line."  The Rolling Stones famously gave the electric rock song to a Los Angeles radio station as an incomplete demo to play while they drove around and listened to it so they could hear what it would sound like on the radio. "All Down The Line," written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, appears on the band's historic 1972 album, Exile On Main Street.  Check it out @  All Down the Line. 

As for the doc (trailer below), it'll get a June 22 dvd & blu ray release on Eagle Vision (via Universal Music) and tells the story, in the band's own words and through extensive archive footage,  of their time away from the UK and the creation of this extraordinary double album, "Exile on Main Street" which is regarded by many as the Rolling Stones' finest achievement.

The Bye-Bye GO-GOs Tour - Now Cancelled

MUSIC NEWS - With 30 years as an all-female rock-pop band, The Go-Gos have had a great run.  And now, the female quintet have announced plans wrap up their career with a summer 2010 "Happily Ever After: The Farewell Tour."  The group, singer Belinda Carlisle, guitarist Jane Wiedlin, guitarist/keyboardist Charlotte Caffey, bassist Kathy Valentine and drummer Gina Schock, will start up their final run with two Lilith Tour appearances; in Chula Vista, CA on July 7 and the following day in Phoenix, AZ, with other headlining concert dates thru July 27 before calling it quits in Austin, TX (full itinerary below).

Tickets for some shows are available now, with remaining concerts going on sale later this month.  The Go-Go's are still promoting the release of, "The Go-Go's Live in Central Park," a DVD that they shot during their tour supporting "God Bless the Go-Go's."  God Bless... was released back in 2001, their first album of new material in 17 years.

WHEN YOU'RE STRANGE; Doors Documentary to Get June DVD & Blu Ray Release

MUSIC NEWS- When You¹re Stange: A Film About the Doors, Rhino Entertainment 's music documentary about the legendary rock band, THE DOORS, will get its' dvd and blue ray release thanks to Eagle Rock Entertainment.  The rockumentary uncovers historic and previously unseen footage of the illustrious rock band and provides new insight into the revolutionary impact of its music and legacy.

Directed by award-winning writer/director Tom DiCillo and narrated by Johnny Depp, the film is a riveting account of the band¹s history.  Produced by Wolf Films/Strange Pictures, in association with Rhino Entertainment, the 90-minute film is the first feature documentary about The Doors. When You¹re Strange had a limited theatrical release on April 9 and now will hit the DVD and Blu-Ray world on June 29th (via Eagle Vision).

PHISH 3D in Theatres This Week

MUSIC NEWS - Phish 3D, a 3D concert experience movie from PHISH,  opens nationwide this Friday, April 30th for an exclusive one week run. The movie features never before seen cover songs, and intimate footage of the band backstage and in rehearsals.

Filmed back in October 2009 at the band’s Festival 8, more than 40,000 devoted fans watched as Phish combined two of their most beloved tradition; the multi-day festival and the Halloween album “costume.” The band’s highly anticipated "musical costumes" are concerts involving the performance of an entire album by another artist, in this case, Phish covered the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street album. Phish 3D also features songs from the band’s first ever full-length acoustic set, as well as performances taken from the six additional sets.

The two+ hour movie is presented by Action 3D Productions in association with Network LIVE and Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp.

Bruce Springsteen's "LONDON CALLING.." Film Out June 22 on DVD, Blu Ray

MUSIC NEWS - Count the days to your next chance to add to your Springsteen videos collection; Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's 'London Calling: Live In Hyde Park' concert film will be releasing on Blu-Ray disc and DVD on June 22 (via Columbia records).Recorded in London at the Hard Rock Calling Festival on June 28, 2009 in HD, the 163-minute film documents 26 tracks of live Springsteen that begins in daylight and progress through a gorgeous sunset into night.  Producer and editor Thom Zimny and director Chris Hilson, both members of Springsteen's video team for over a decade, oversaw the film. Audio was mixed by Bob Clearmountain.

'London Calling: Live In Hyde Park' brings both the experience of being on-stage and the crowd experience of the festival setting.    The set list covers the full range of Springsteen's albums, his 'Born To Run' era to 'Working On a Dream' and includes rare covers such as The Clash's "London Calling," Jimmy Cliff's "Trapped," The Young Rascals' "Good Lovin'," and Eddie Floyd's "Raise Your Hand." Springsteen also performs fan favorite "Hard Times (Come Again No More)," written by Stephen Foster in 1854. Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem joins the band as a guest vocalist on Springsteen's own "No Surrender."

NEIL YOUNG To Embark on "Twisted Road" Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Legendary rocker Neil Young has announced plans to hit the road this spring for his first "Twisted Road" solo concert tour, his first in many years. The run begins on May 18 continuing through June 8th.  As an even rarer treat, Young will play solo in several of the region’s classic theaters, with a program of his classic songs along with some brand new, as yet unrecorded songs. British folk legend Bert Jansch will open the shows.   Full itinerary is listed below.

In other Neil Young news, his Trunk Show concert film will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD by Reprise Records later this year. The film is the second in director Jonathan Demme’s planned trilogy about the legendary rocker. Demme also directed the 2006 Young documentary Heart of Gold.  The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, afterwhich Rolling Stone called it “an unconscious, raw, in-the-moment concert movie that respects the immediacy of creativity and the creator.” Theatrical screenings are being held across the country this week.

U2 Rose Bowl Concert Gets DVD Release

MUSIC NEWS - U2360° At The Rose Bowl will get a June 3 release on DVD and Blu-ray by Interscope Records, coinciding with the band's first USA show in 2010.  U2360° At The Rose Bowl  was the ultimate gig of last year's U2360° tour that has the band on the road supporting their No Line on The Horizon album.  The Rose Bowl performance was the band's biggest show of 2009 and U2's biggest ever US show, with a live audience of 97,000 +.

Shot entirely in HD, the concert was filmed with 27 cameras and directed by Tom Krueger who had previously worked on U23D, the first live action 3D concert movie taken from U2's Vertigo Tour.
Available in standard and two disc deluxe DVD formats, U2360° At The Rose Bowl will also be U2's first concert available in the Bluray format. The deluxe dvd release and the Blu-ray will feature a new documentary called Squaring the Circle: Creating U2360°, with new interviews with U2, their manager, Paul McGuinness and the team behind the touring production.

TOOL Frontman Now Wine Guru

MUSIC NEWS - Blood Into Wine is the new documentary that features Tool / Puscifer front man Maynard James Keenan, his vineyard partner Eric Glomski, actress Milla Jovovich, comedians Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.  While Puscifer is band on the road, the producers of the film have announced additional screening dates (full list below).

 

Blood Into Wine was co-directed by Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke, the team behind critically acclaimed documentaries Moog and The Heart Is a Drum Machine.  FilmCritic.com called the film: "a rock 'n roll version of Sideways,” the Los Angeles Times said “The frisson between his [Keenan] well-crafted personal mystique and the way the film presents him as a dedicated new winemaker learning his craft is intriguing” and the San Diego CityBeat added, "It’s a behind-the-curtain peek at a notoriously publicity-shy celebrity, but more than that, it’s a fascinating look at pioneers braving the Arizona elements to create drinkable art."
