BUGGLES To Reunite For Charity Event

 

MUSIC NEWS- New Wave band The Buggles are reuniting for one-night  on September 28, 2010, co-founder Trevor Horn has announced.  "The Buggles - along with some very special guest artists - will perform live on stage for one night only," a posting on his website reads.  The concert has the original line-up performing their debut album The Age of Plastic in full "at a special and intimate West London venue".

The group is best known for their 1979 number onetune,  Video Killed The Radio Star (video of which kicked off the MTV network two years later).   The Buggles only released two albums before they split in 1981, and they never went on tour.  Horn and Downes joined prog rockers YES for one release and tour

DEVO Back on Tour for Summer 2010

With last month's Something For Everybody album out and getting critical and fan acclaim, Devo is back on the road for a North American tour that starts this week, July 23, in Kansas City, MO and currently due to wrap up on September 18 in Phoenix, AZ (full itinerary below), but we expect more dates to be added.

ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL Grows Larger This Year

MUSIC NEWS - With over 200,000 attendees expected for this year’s ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL (EDC), the event is solidly North America’s largest electronic music experience and will return to the Memorial Coliseum & Exposition Park in downtown Los Angeles, CA on Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26.

Insomniac, the promoter of EDC, has unveiled the line-up of over 80 artists that will appear at five custom-designed stages throughout the festival.

UPDATE 6/28/10 - The L.A. Fire Department reports that 114 people were injured during the weekend's 14th annual Electric Daisy Carnival out of an estimated 185,000 people in attendance.   The Los Angeles Times said 94 incidents were reported Friday, with 52 people taken to a hospital for treatment.

On Saturday, 132 incidents were reported, of which 62 required transportation to a hospital, the newspaper said, adding the extent of the injuries was not known.

THOMAS DOLBY to Return After a 20 Year Recording Break !!!

MUSIC NEWS -  Thomas Dolby , the iconic UK 80s songwriter, singer, musician, electronic pop-star whose smash hits She Blinded Me With Science and Hyperactive helped define the MTV generation/revolution, is preparing to end his 20-year absence from the recording scene with a new album later this year to be called; A Map of the Floating City. The new album will feature appearances by Mark Knopfler, Regina Spektor, Natalie MacMaster, Bruce Woolley and Imogen Heap.  In advance of the full album, Thomas Dolby will release three digital-only EPs that will contain three or four songs each and will be exclusive to members of his online fan community, The Flat Earth Society.

The five time Grammy-nominated British artist quit the music business in the early 90s and spent many years in Silicon Valley, where his tech company Beatnik Inc. created the ringtone synthesizer embedded in more than 3 billion mobile phones shipped by Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and others. Now retired from Beatnik, Dolby returned to his native UK and is recording an album of brand new songs in a renewable energy-powered studio he built aboard a 1930's lifeboat in the garden of his beach house on England's North Sea coast.

PASSION PIT, Back From Europe for More USA Shows

MUSIC NEWS- It's been a well deserved amazing year for the Boston based Passion Pit, but they're not done yet! With nomination for a MTV VMA, for their video "The Reeling" (watch the video below), and taking home a Best Album award from Boston's WXPN radio, the accolades for the band keep rolling in. They've now been nominated for the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards for "Breaking Woodie" and will be performing on the show which was recording this week in NYC. The boys will then take on Jimmel Kimmel Live on December 8th and continue onto a West Coast tour. All this coming off amazing stops at Lollapalooza, Bonaroo, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Monolith, ACL and Treasure Island Music Festival. Passion Pit have recently returned from their European tour, and stay tuned...  they're back in the states for the rest of 2009 with bigger plans for 2010 !

HOT CHIP Line Up USA and Canadian Dates

Music News - To celebrate the upcoming release of their new album, One LIfe Stand (due out February 8, 2010) HOT CHIP has announced a series of USA and Canadian shows.  The run will begin April 16 in Oakland, CA with a show at Fox Theater and continue through an April 24, 2010 show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC (full itinerary below).

Hot Chip will add a live drummer on the tour, and will be supported by The xx.

LITTLE DRAGON Back With MACHINE DREAMS

MUSIC NEWS- We're excited about this; following the success of their 2007 self-titled record, Little Dragon have returned with the spectacular Machine Dreams release (out via Peacefrog Records), a poppy electronic epic that has already captivated Europe, and is poised to do the samein the USA.  To help accomplish that, they're about to kick off their US headlining tour (see itinerary below) after a successful run in May supporting TV On The Radio!

Hailing from the burgeoning electro-pop scene in Gothenburg, Sweeden, Little Dragon’s carefully crafted sophomore effort walks the line between experimental electro and giddy synth pop, with enough infectious hooks to push the band from quiet underground sensations into the mainstream. Recorded in their home city of Gothenburg, Machine Dreams is a gigantic leap on from previous material, but still maintains a distinct Little Dragon sound, straddling different denres touching on R&B, Soul, Jazz and Dancehall.

Sweden's TITIYO's New "Crystal Clear Mud", From HIDDEN - Listen

MUSIC NEWS - Swedish, Stockholm-based label Despotz Records again brings us great music from a wonderful artist.  This time, with word that HIDDEN, from the Swedish singer/songwriter, Titiyo, will be released October 16 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux and November 9 in the UK.

And, MNN has a new track from the release, "Crystal Clear Mud" - Listen Below ! It has all the pop, electronic (ala Kraftwerk) sound that we love, an epic song.

KRAFTWERK to Release Remaster Sets

     MUSIC NEWS - KRAFTWERK have announced their plans to release eight of their albums in remastered editions this autumn.  The German electronic rock legends will release the albums, which include their classic discs 'Trans Europe Express' and 'The Man Machine', on October 6.  The album reissued, entitled '12345678 The Catalogue', will be available as individual CDs and as an eight CD box set, plus as downloads and heavyweight vinyl LPs. 

The albums that will be reissued are: 'Autobahn' (1974), 'Radio-Activity' (1975), 'Trans Europe Express' (1977), 'The Man Machine' (1978), 'Computer World' (1981), 'Techno Pop' (1986), 'The Mix' (1991) and 'Tour De France' (2003).

CHAIRLIFT, Now Fashionistas, Announce Fall Tour

     MUSIC NEWS - Brooklyn, NY three-piece Chairlift is busy prepping for the last half of 2009, and doing it in dtyle.  Saks.com has just announced an exclusive collaboration with the band as one part of its four-part music video for the fall MARC BY MARC JACOBS Ready-To-Wear and Accessories Collections.  Chairlift's exclusive music video shows them wearing the fall line on the streets of their Brooklyn.  Chairlift is also being featured on the "MIX IT UP by MARC BY MARC JACOBS" iTunes playlist.

And, in the midst of this prelude to NYC Fashion Week, the band has been readying for their fall headlining tour across USA, Canada and Europe with PHOENIX and The KILLERS among others.  Brooklyn psych-minded group Here We Go Magic will also be opening for the band in NYC.  As an added bonus, former Animal Collective collaborator and composer John Maus will join the band on tour, as a guest member.  Both artists are fans of each other's music, so this will be a special and interesting new collaboration!  Maus will also open for the band in select cities along the tour, which kicks off in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom on September 5 and will wrap up in the UK on October 28.
